The Bagnoregio Carnival celebration, featuring allegorical floats, confetti, and masks in the heart of the Tuscia region.
The Bagnoregio Carnival is the event through which the municipality of Bagnoregio, in the province of Viterbo, celebrates Carnival. Organized by the Pro Loco Bagnoregio APS, the event brings the town center to life on Sundays in February with a parade of allegorical floats, transforming streets and squares into a grand celebration space open to both young and old.
The heart of the event is the parade of allegorical floats, which winds through the streets of the historic center and gathers in the main squares of Bagnoregio. The floats, carefully crafted by local groups and volunteers, parade accompanied by masks, music, and dancing, while a rain of confetti and streamers follows the procession. The celebration takes place over two Sundays, offering multiple opportunities to participate.
The Bagnoregio Carnival is designed specifically for children and families: the little ones parade in costume, play with confetti, and experience one of the most anticipated days of winter as protagonists. The atmosphere is the cheerful and carefree one typical of the Italian Carnival, with a strong community spirit that involves the entire town.
Bagnoregio is world-famous for Civita di Bagnoregio, the evocative "dying city" perched on a tuff spur. Surrounding this extraordinary heritage, the town maintains a vibrant community life, of which the Carnival is one of the most heartfelt expressions. Participating in the Bagnoregio Carnival is also an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Viterbo Tuscia, among villages, folk traditions, and the unique landscapes of Lazio.
Like many Carnival celebrations in small towns, the one in Bagnoregio thrives on the work of Pro Loco volunteers and the participation of the inhabitants. It is a free, open-air event that renews a popular tradition every year, combining fun, folklore, and a sense of belonging to an entire community.
The Bagnoregio Carnival 2026 was spread over two Sundays, February 8 and 15, 2026, bringing the usual parade of allegorical floats to the center of Bagnoregio. The event, organized by the Pro Loco Bagnoregio APS, renewed the most anticipated winter appointment for children and families in the area.
Amidst confetti, masks, and music, the float procession crossed the town streets in a festive atmosphere open to all, confirming the Carnival as one of the most vibrant popular traditions of Bagnoregio and the province of Viterbo.
By car: Bagnoregio can be reached from the A1 motorway (Orvieto exit), just a few kilometers from the border between Lazio and Umbria; from Viterbo, follow the road to Montefiascone and Lake Bolsena. By train: the nearest station is Orvieto, which is connected to Bagnoregio by bus. By plane: the reference airports are Rome Fiumicino and Rome Ciampino.
The parade of allegorical floats and the activities in the square are free of charge.
