About Bagni's Games

The Bagni's Games are a grand competition between the four Counties of Bagni di Lucca, nestled in the heart of the Lucchese Garfagnana. For two weeks, spanning late August to early September, the four local districts—Granchio, Vipera, Trota, and Alce—compete in dozens of games designed for all ages: from relay races and sprints for children to tug-of-war, padel, card games like burraco, and traditional adult challenges. Everything kicks off with the spectacular 'Notte delle Contee', a vibrant costume parade that ignites the town's spirit and officially starts the competition.

A tournament that unites the entire region

The Bagni's Games were born in Bagni di Lucca, a spa town immersed in the Media Valle del Serchio, in the province of Lucca. The idea came from three friends, including the events councillor Priscilla Valentino. The goal is both simple and ambitious: to recreate enthusiasm, a sense of belonging, and community spirit, while showcasing the beauty of a territory made up of hamlets scattered between the Serchio river, the Lima stream, and the Apennine mountains.

Following the success of the 2025 pilot edition, the event has evolved into a full-fledged competition between four Counties, each identified by a color and a symbolic animal, which group together the various hamlets of the municipality.

The four Counties

  • Trota (yellow): the hamlets overlooking the Lima stream, including Controneria, Benabbio, and Lugliano;
  • Vipera (green): Villa, Corsena, Colle, and Paretaio;
  • Alce (blue): Fornoli, Cafaggio, and the Val Fegana;
  • Granchio (red): Ponte a Serraglio and the hamlets from Granaiola up to Montefegatesi.

Each County is led by its own board, composed of two representatives who, together with the councillor, coordinate the districts' participation in the games.

Games for all ages

The heart of the Bagni's Games is the program of activities, divided between children and adults. For the little ones, there are relay races, 100-meter sprints, rafting, color-tag games, and the classic sack race. Adults compete in both traditional and modern disciplines: tug-of-war, burraco, briscola, quizzes, padel, beach volleyball, darts, five-a-side football, table tennis, bocce, the 'graziellata' bike race, and the unmissable hay-bale competition.

The Notte delle Contee

The official start is marked by the Notte delle Contee, a colorful parade where each district takes to the streets in its own colors, launching weeks of friendly competition and widespread festivities across the town's squares and sports fields. It is the most anticipated and identity-defining moment of the event, drawing a large crowd, especially among the youth.

A widespread festival

The games take place in various locations throughout the municipal area, from sports fields to village squares, turning the entire municipality of Bagni di Lucca into one large playground. The event is organized by the Municipality in collaboration with the local Pro Loco and Unitre, and it has become one of the most cherished summer traditions in the Lucca area.

Bagni's Games — edition 2026

The first official edition of the Bagni's Games, following the 2025 pilot, features new games for children and adults. It begins on August 22 with the Notte delle Contee, while the competitions between Granchio, Vipera, Trota, and Alce will animate the area from August 25 to September 5, 2026.

The 2026 edition marks the official debut of the Bagni's Games after the successful pilot edition of the previous year. The event was presented on May 16, 2026, at the Sala Rosa of the Circolo dei Forestieri, with a large turnout, especially among the youth. The four Counties—Granchio, Vipera, Trota, and Alce—compete in a renewed and expanded calendar of games, focused on collaboration and enthusiasm.
