About Avezzano Carnival

The Avezzano Carnival Festival transforms Piazza Risorgimento, in the heart of the Marsica region, into a large open-air stage dedicated to children and families. Organized by the Avezzano Bimbi team with the support of the local municipality, the festival blends traditional masks and contemporary costumes with confetti, mascots, creative workshops, stilt walkers, jugglers, and children's dance parties. A free, participatory event that brings a splash of joy to the Abruzzo winter.

Carnival in the heart of Avezzano

The Avezzano Carnival Festival is one of the most anticipated winter events for families in the Marsica area. The celebration takes place in Piazza Risorgimento, the city's main square, which for the occasion turns into a large open-air playground filled with confetti, colors, music, and masks of all kinds.

An event for children and families

The initiative is organized by the Avezzano Bimbi staff, with the coordination of the municipal administration, and was created with the goal of offering a free, inclusive Carnival designed primarily for the little ones. Throughout the days, numerous activities take place: mascot parades, carnival-themed creative workshops, face-painting stations, baby dance, juggling and soap bubble shows, stilt walker performances, and, as a grand finale, the traditional mega confetti toss in the square amidst music and applause.

Masks between tradition and modernity

One of the most characteristic aspects of the festival is the masquerade parade, where traditional Italian costumes—from Harlequin to Pulcinella—coexist with the most original and trendy disguises inspired by characters loved by children. The square fills with hundreds of little masked revelers who bring the city center to life with creativity and enthusiasm.

A community tradition in Avezzano

Born as a moment of gathering for the region, the Avezzano Carnival Festival has established itself over the years as a true collective ritual, capable of involving the various neighborhoods and districts of the city. The event represents an opportunity to rediscover the authentic spirit of Carnival in the Municipality of Avezzano, in the province of L'Aquila, in the heart of Abruzzo, combining fun, social interaction, and the enhancement of urban spaces.
