A festival spread across the hills of Piedmont

Attraverso Festival is one of the most beloved cultural events in southern Piedmont. Born in 2016, every summer it transforms villages, squares, courtyards, and green spaces of the UNESCO-listed lands of Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato—plus the Piedmontese Apennines—into open-air stages. With over 40 events spread across nearly 30 municipalities in the provinces of Alessandria, Asti, and Cuneo, the festival weaves together theater, music, literature, and popular science into a single great cultural map to explore during the summer.

The Gamalero stop

Among the participating municipalities is Gamalero, a small village in the province of Alessandria, which hosts its event in the town's Green Area. It is a place that embodies the spirit of the festival: bringing big names in Italian culture and science communication away from large city theaters into intimate, cozy settings where the audience experiences the encounter in a close and authentic way. The eleventh edition in 2026 revolves around the theme #pop, a simple and direct key that evokes the "people." According to artistic directors Paola Farinetti and Simona Ressico, re-evaluating the "popular" is a duty: the festival aims to cross all genres of performance and truly speak to everyone, from social theater to great singer-songwriter music, from historical and scientific dissemination to comedy.

The history of medicine as an adventure

In Gamalero, the 2026 program focuses on popular science, with an exceptional protagonist: Paolo Mazzarello, medical historian and writer, who brings "The History of Medicine as an Adventure" to the stage. It is a story that traverses the greatness and miseries of medical science, transforming the history of discoveries and their protagonists into an exciting narrative accessible to all.
