The patronal festival of Bussoleno in honor of Santa Maria Assunta, in the heart of the Susa Valley
The Assunta Patronal Festival is the annual summer event that draws residents, vacationers, and visitors from neighboring towns in the Susa Valley to Bussoleno, in the province of Turin. Dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta, the town's patron saint, the festival centers around August 15th and spans several days with a program that blends religious devotion, entertainment, and local conviviality.
The heart of the festival remains the procession on August 15th, when the statue of the Madonna Assunta is carried through the streets of the center, accompanied by the community: a moment of strong identity that links Bussoleno to its roots. Around this religious core, local associations—led by the Pro Loco—organize days packed with activities for all ages.
In recent editions, the town has hosted dance evenings and concerts in Piazza Cavour, food stalls featuring traditional Piedmontese flavors, the famous ballo a palchetto (traditional wooden dance floor), popular square games like wheelbarrow races and guessing contests, panoramic tours with vintage taxis from Castello Borello, and guided tours of the Mulino Varesio.
A special role belongs to the Società Filarmonica di Bussoleno, the historic town band that has always opened the festivities in Piazza Cavour with its traditional Assunta Concert. Music accompanies every evening, alternating between bands, dance orchestras, revival groups, and DJ sets until late at night.
The festivities culminate with a fireworks display that lights up the sky over Bussoleno, always greeted by a large crowd. It is the most spectacular moment of the festival, uniting entire generations under the fireworks of the Susa Valley.
The 2026 Assunta Patronal Festival in Bussoleno kicks off on Saturday, August 8th, in Piazza Cavour with the Assunta Concert, the opening event of the festivities which coincides with the 210th anniversary of the Società Filarmonica di Bussoleno. The festival continues until August 15th, the patron saint's day, with the customary religious procession and closing events.
The complete civil program, including the evenings, food stalls, and the festival's typical fireworks, will be announced by the Pro Loco of Bussoleno in the weeks leading up to the event.
The detailed program of the intermediate evenings (concerts, dances, food stalls, square games) will be published by the Pro Loco and the Municipality in the weeks preceding the festival.
Bussoleno is located in the lower Susa Valley, along the Turin-Frejus axis. By train: the Bussoleno station is a major hub on the Turin-Modane line, well-connected to Turin Porta Nuova. By car: take the Borgone-San Didero exit on the A32 Turin-Bardonecchia motorway, then it is just a few minutes to the center.
The festivities are concentrated around mid-August, with the procession on the day of the Assumption (August 15th). Evening events and side activities are spread across the days before and after.
Access to events in the square is generally free; some activities and food stalls require payment. For the updated program, it is recommended to contact the Pro Loco of Bussoleno or check the municipal website.
