The moving motorcycle museum at the Varano de' Melegari Racetrack
There are museums where motorcycles stay still behind glass, and then there's the ASI MotoShow: here, historic motorcycles roar on the track again. Every spring, the Riccardo Paletti Racetrack in Varano de' Melegari, on the first hills of the Apennines in the province of Parma, hosts what the organizers call "the moving motorcycle museum." Thousands of vintage motorcycles, from early 20th-century veterans to '90s racing bikes, parade and lap the circuit in front of an audience of enthusiasts from all over Europe.
The event is promoted by the Italian Historic Automobile Club (ASI), the reference body for historic motoring in our country. Founded in the early 2000s, the ASI MotoShow has grown to become one of Europe's most important events dedicated to historic motorcycles, capable of bringing together hundreds of examples and dozens of world champions in a single location in Emilia-Romagna.
The setting is the Varano de' Melegari Racetrack, a small municipality in the Province of Parma known to motorsport enthusiasts throughout the region. The circuit, named after Formula 1 driver Riccardo Paletti, is one of the most beloved tracks for historic motoring events in Emilia-Romagna, the heart of the Motor Valley. Admission to the MotoShow has always been free, a detail that makes it a popular celebration open to all two-wheel enthusiasts.
For its 23rd edition, the ASI MotoShow celebrated the Ducati centenary (100 years of history and 80 years of motorcycle production), bringing historic pieces from Borgo Panigale to Varano de' Melegari. The event confirmed the official presence of Honda and Yamaha and a series of parades by era, from post-war bikes to Superbikes. Among the announced guests were champions Marco Melandri, Alvaro Bautista, Carlos Lavado, Eugenio Lazzarini, and Pierpaolo Bianchi. Admission remained free for the public.
The Riccardo Paletti Racetrack is located in Varano de' Melegari (PR). By car: take the Fidenza or Fornovo exit from the A1/A15 highway, then provincial roads towards the Ceno valley. The nearest train station is Fornovo di Taro, on the Parma-La Spezia line.
Admission for the public is free.
Arrive early to find parking and enjoy the opening of the gates. Bring sun protection: much of the event takes place outdoors, around the track.
