Multisensory guided tour of the historic park of Castel di Lama
On Sunday, June 7, 2026, the Borgo Storico Seghetti Panichi in Castel di Lama, in the province of Ascoli Piceno, will participate in Appuntamento in Giardino, the national event promoted by APGI - Association of Parks and Gardens of Italy, which annually opens the most beautiful parks and gardens on the peninsula to the public. For a weekend at the beginning of summer, the Marche region will thus engage in dialogue with hundreds of green spaces across all twenty Italian regions.
The Borgo's offering is an immersive and multisensory guided tour: visitors are invited to explore the park not just with their eyes, but with all their senses. Close your eyes to listen to the sounds of nature, identify botanical fragrances, and touch barks and leaves. It's a different, slower way to experience the garden, in line with the edition's theme, dedicated to sight and the rediscovery of what often goes unnoticed.
The park covers over five hectares and was designed between 1875 and 1890 by the renowned German botanist Ludwig Winter. Among its most precious specimens are monumental palms (including the rare Jubaea spectabilis, Phoenix, and Washingtonia), ginkgo biloba trees, Mediterranean and Eastern plants, as well as an ornamental water feature with water lilies and lotus flowers. It is considered the first historic bioenergetic garden in Italy, a rare example of a park designed in harmony with the natural energies of the trees.
The Borgo combines the garden with an architecturally significant complex: an ancient medieval fortress transformed into a residence in the 18th century and a frescoed chapel dedicated to San Pancrazio. After the damage from the 2016 earthquake, the complex underwent a major restoration, leading to its rebirth and reopening to the public.
Participation is free and the event is aimed at families, botany enthusiasts, walkers, and anyone wishing to spend a morning immersed in the nature and history of the Piceno region. The visit is part of the national framework of the APGI initiative, under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and ANCI.
