Mandorlato, tripe and Venetian tradition on the Asiago Plateau
The Antica Fiera Franca di Santa Caterina is held in the hamlet of the same name in Lusiana Conco, a municipality on the Asiago Plateau in the province of Vicenza. The event is rooted in the ancient traditions of the Venetian Republic and in the celebrations linked to the Doges, when 'free fairs' enjoyed customs exemptions.
Also known as the Sagra del Mandorlato e della Trippa, the fair celebrates two symbolic products: mandorlato, a traditional sweet made from almonds, honey, and sugar sold at the stalls, and tripe, a rustic dish prepared according to a traditional recipe and served at the food stand along with minestrone soup, hot sandwiches, hot chocolate, and roasted chestnuts.
Along the village streets, stalls offer mountain cheeses, cured meats, honey, grappa, ancient fruit varieties, and local crafts, ideal for pre-holiday shopping. Live music and entertainment accompany the weekend, organised by the Pro Loco (local tourism association) with the Municipality of Lusiana Conco.
The 2026 edition of the Antica Fiera Franca di Santa Caterina is expected at the end of November in the hamlet of Lusiana Conco, on the Asiago Plateau, with the usual Sagra del Mandorlato e della Trippa.
The fair's structure includes stalls with almond brittle, mountain cheeses, cured meats, honey, and local products along the village streets, and the food stand with tripe, minestrone soup, mulled wine, and roasted chestnuts, accompanied by music and entertainment. Definitive dates and program will be announced by the Pro Loco and the Municipality of Lusiana Conco.
