The Ancient Ginestra Fair is one of the most cherished summer events in Ginestra Fiorentina, a village in the municipality of Lastra a Signa, in the Province of Florence. For five days, the village square and streets become the stage for a true community celebration, brought to life by dozens of volunteers and numerous local associations that renew this beloved valley tradition every year.

The Fair was born and has grown as a charitable event: the proceeds collected during the evenings are used to fund projects that provide services to the village community. The neighborhood games and the five districts

The beating heart of the Fair is the neighborhood games, a competition that divides the village into five districts — Rinazzo/Casone, Ginestra Centro, Coniglio, Carcheri, and Anselmo — which compete for victory through skill challenges, evening semi-finals, and a high-stakes final. It is a playful and passionate competition that involves entire families and keeps the identity of the Ginestra Fiorentina districts alive.

Food stalls, shows, and tradition

Every evening, starting at 7:30 PM, the food stalls and the beer stand managed by volunteers open their doors: the perfect opportunity to dine in the square and savor traditional Tuscan dishes in a festive atmosphere. Alongside the food, the program offers music, shows, fashion parades, quizzes, dance school performances, and the regional selection for Miss Italia, as well as initiatives like the night mountain bike ride and the motorcycle tour through the hills.

The Palio del Papero and the fireworks

The most anticipated moment is the Palio del Papero, the duck race that concludes the neighborhood games and determines the winning district. The Fair bids farewell with a lottery draw and fireworks that light up the sky over Ginestra Fiorentina, greeting the village until the next edition. A spectacular finale for an event that combines fun, gastronomy, and a sense of belonging, representing one of the most genuine appointments in the summer calendar of the Florentine Tuscany.
