Advent among the artisan stalls in the heart of Anacapri
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every December, the village of Anacapri, perched on the high side of the island of Capri, transforms into a charming Christmas village. The Christmas Markets are the heart of the "Magic of Anacapri Christmas" festival, a programme of holiday events promoted by the Municipality of Anacapri, in the Metropolitan City of Naples, Campania. Far from the crowds of large city markets, the atmosphere here is intimate and authentic: festive lights illuminate the white alleys, the scent of traditional sweets fills the air, and local workshops open onto the squares of the historic centre.
The focal point of the markets is the evocative Cloister of San Nicola, located in the historic centre, where wooden stalls are set up for exhibitors. The selection highlights local craftsmanship and traditional artistic trades:
The markets are part of a rich calendar of events that bring Anacapri to life throughout the festive period. The switching on of the Christmas lights marks the official start of the season, accompanied by musical performances in the squares. Christmas concerts are held in the village's churches and cultural spaces, while artistic nativity scenes and decorations adorn the most picturesque corners of the town. It is the perfect opportunity to discover Anacapri in a unique, intimate winter guise, far removed from the bustling crowds of summer.
Visiting Anacapri during Advent means experiencing the most genuine side of Capri, when the island returns to its slow pace and community roots. Strolling through the markets, heading up towards Piazza della Vittoria and the viewpoints, and breathing in the crisp Mediterranean winter air offers a rare experience. The Anacapri Christmas Markets are a small jewel in the Campania holiday calendar, where island hospitality and artisan tradition meet.
The programme for the upcoming edition of the Anacapri Christmas Markets has not yet been released by the Municipality of Anacapri. As every year, the event is expected to enliven the historic centre and the Cloister of San Nicola during the Christmas season, featuring local crafts, nativity scenes, decorations, and typical products. Dates and the event calendar will be published on the Municipality's official channels in the weeks leading up to the holidays.
Anacapri can be reached by landing in Capri (ferries and hydrofoils from Naples, about 50 minutes, and from Sorrento with reduced service in winter). From the port of Marina Grande, you can reach Capri town via the funicular or bus, then continue to Anacapri by local bus. Car traffic is limited: it is best to use public transport.
During the Advent period, typically from the beginning of December until mid-month. The markets are held in the historic centre and the Cloister of San Nicola.
Access to the markets is generally free. For the detailed programme and opening hours, it is recommended to check the official channels of the Municipality of Anacapri.
