The gathering of the Alpini of the Agno Valley between Valdagno and Altissimo
The Alpine Festival at Santa Caterina Pass is the annual gathering of the Alpini Groups of the Agno Valley, organized by the 'penne nere' (black hats) of Cerealto, Altissimo, and Castelvecchio. It takes place on the Santa Caterina pass, at an altitude of 796 meters, along the border between Valdagno and Altissimo, in the province of Vicenza.
The symbolic heart of the day is the chapel of Santa Caterina, a profound symbol of peace, remembrance, and gratitude for the alpine community. Every year, Alpini, authorities, and valley residents gather around it for a moment of reflection and shared celebration.
The program combines civil and religious rites with traditional singing: Holy Mass is accompanied by the Coro Aqua Ciara of Recoaro Terme, followed by a short concert, official speeches, and the traditional alpine refreshment, in an atmosphere of conviviality and belonging.
The Alpine Festival at Santa Caterina Pass 2026 takes place on Saturday, May 23. The Alpini Groups of the Agno Valley — Cerealto, Altissimo, and Castelvecchio — gather for an afternoon of friendship and tradition around the historic chapel of the pass, a symbol of peace and remembrance.
Santa Caterina Pass can be reached from Valdagno by ascending towards the upper hamlets; the meeting point is set at Casin del Gamba, from which the procession to the chapel departs.
Free participation.
The festival is held in spring, usually at the end of May.
