An eco-friendly cycling tour through the Roman walls of Alife and the Matese countryside
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Alifana Cycle Tour is one of the most anticipated events in Alife, a town in the Province of Caserta located at the foot of the Matese massif in Campania. It is a non-competitive, eco-friendly cycling tour open to everyone: families, children, cycling enthusiasts, and anyone curious to rediscover the local area while pedaling at a leisurely pace.
The charm of the Cycle Tour lies in its host location. Alife preserves the layout of the ancient Roman Allifae almost intact: a two-kilometer-long defensive wall, marked by towers and monumental city gates, encloses a rectangular historic center. Cycling along these streets is like moving through an open-air museum, passing Roman ruins, the amphitheater, and traces of the city's Samnite and Norman past.
The route, which is accessible to all skill levels, winds through the urban center and the surrounding countryside, offering views of the Matese and Monte Maggiore peaks and the cultivated fields of the Alto Casertano. This is not a race: the goal is to enjoy the fresh air, discover the landscape, and promote sustainable mobility. Along the way, there are refreshment points featuring local specialties, rest stops, and, in past editions, mechanical assistance and a shuttle service for bicycles.
The event is organized by the Associazione Pro Loco Alifana APS, with the patronage of the Municipality of Alife. The event is part of a broader effort to promote the historical, natural, and gastronomic heritage of the Matese region and has attracted families and cyclists of all ages over the years, often accompanied by music and entertainment.
Thanks to its relaxed pace and a route suitable even for children, the Alifana Cycle Tour is designed as a shared festive day dedicated to gentle sports, ecology, and conviviality. It is an ideal opportunity to experience Alife and the Alto Casertano in a different, slow, and sustainable way.
The 2026 Alifana Cycle Tour is expected in Alife, in the Province of Caserta, following the usual format of an eco-friendly cycling tour open to all. As of now, the organizers have not yet published the official calendar. Information regarding the day, times, meeting point, and registration will be released by the Pro Loco Alifana through their official channels. It is recommended to check for updates before planning your participation.
Alife is located in the Alto Casertano region, at the foot of the Matese mountains. By car, it can be reached from the Caianello exit (A1 motorway), continuing towards the Volturno Valley, or from Caserta via the Sannitica state road. The Alife-Piedimonte Matese railway station is served by the local line.
Registration and departure usually take place in the center of Alife, in Piazza XIX Ottobre.
Bring a bicycle in good condition, a helmet, water, and comfortable clothing. As it is a non-competitive ride, it is also suitable for families with children. For updated dates, times, and registration procedures, it is best to contact the Pro Loco Alifana.
