A family celebration featuring workshops, nature, and agriculture at the Trentino Ethnographic Museum
Agrifamily is the most anticipated event for families in the municipality of San Michele all'Adige, located in the Piana Rotaliana, the agricultural heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. Every year, the event brings the METS - Trentino Ethnographic Museum San Michele to life. Housed in the ancient Augustinian monastery on Via Edmund Mach, the museum transforms its courtyards, gardens, and cloister into a large open-air workshop. The event is promoted by the Rotaliana-Königsberg Family District in collaboration with the museum and is part of Adesenfesta, a village festival that involves the entire historic center.
The central theme of Agrifamily is agriculture, which has always defined the Piana Rotaliana region. The afternoon features numerous workshops led by local associations and organizations sharing their expertise: educational activities on cereals, aromatic plants, vegetable gardens, and earth's bounty, as well as opportunities to meet farm animals, enjoy pet therapy, and play games for children. There are also tastings of local products and research-focused presentations by the Center for Agriculture, Food, and Environment (C3A) of the University of Trento, showcasing their studies and outreach activities.
Alongside the workshops, the day offers performances and musical interludes: rhythmic gymnastics displays, dance performances, and concerts by youth and children's choirs entertain the public throughout the afternoon. The museum remains open with free admission, allowing families to discover the large water-powered machinery, the mill, the forge, and the ethnographic collections that tell the story of Trentino's rural life.
Agrifamily takes place on the Sunday of Adesenfesta, when San Michele all'Adige fills with stalls, rafts guided by the historic raft-men's guild, concerts, wooden games, and ethnographic exhibitions. The collaboration between the Pro Loco, the Rotaliana-Königsberg Community, and the METS makes this weekend one of the most cherished occasions of the year, successfully blending entertainment, tradition, and the promotion of the agricultural and cultural heritage of the province of Trento.
The event is designed to be accessible to all: museum entry and participation in workshops are free, and activities are tailored to engage children, teenagers, and adults alike. Agrifamily offers a simple and engaging way to introduce new generations to themes of nature, the environment, and agriculture, honoring the rural identity that distinguishes the Piana Rotaliana-Königsberg area.
On Sunday, June 7, 2026, the METS - Trentino Ethnographic Museum San Michele hosted the twelfth edition of Agrifamily, the family festival promoted by the Rotaliana-Königsberg Family District in collaboration with the museum, held during the Adesenfesta weekend (June 6-7).
From 2:00 PM, numerous workshops were held by local associations, dedicated to learning about nature, agriculture, and local products. At 3:30 PM, the ASD Fantasy rhythmic gymnastics performance took place, followed by a children's choir concert at 5:30 PM. The day also featured the Center for Agriculture, Food, and Environment (C3A) of the University of Trento, presenting their research and outreach activities, as well as a morning nature hike along the Adige river with a museum visit and an aperitif. Museum admission was free throughout the event.
