A day celebrating rural and pastoral roots in the Sabina hamlet of Atina, in the heart of the Comino Valley
In the hamlet of Sabina di Atina, a small agricultural village nestled in the Comino Valley in the province of Frosinone, the Agriculture Festival—known to all as the Sheep Festival—returns every summer. It is one of the most anticipated and authentic events of the summer season in this corner of the Ciociaria region: a grassroots festival born from the farming community to celebrate land cultivation, sheep farming, and the pastoral traditions that have always defined local life.
The event is more than just a food festival; it is a true celebration of the agricultural world. Visitors arriving in Sabina will find the countryside transformed into a large open-air stage, where the ancient gestures of farmers and shepherds are demonstrated, explained, and reenacted. It is a precious opportunity to rediscover a rural heritage at risk of disappearing and to share it with new generations in a spirit of conviviality and local pride.
The day alternates between demonstrations, gastronomic appointments, and musical entertainment. The program includes:
The gastronomic heart of the event is sheep, the absolute star of traditional Ciociaria pastoral dishes, accompanied by typical local products and sheep cheese crafted according to ancient local techniques. The stalls allow visitors to taste peasant specialties in a simple and genuine setting, amidst the scents of the countryside and recipes passed down through generations. The farmers' market also offers the chance to purchase goods directly from the producers.
The Municipality of Atina, in southern Lazio, is one of the most important historical centers of the Comino Valley, an area of great natural value at the foot of the Abruzzo, Lazio, and Molise National Park. The Sabina Agriculture Festival is the most sincere expression of this territory's identity, where agriculture and shepherding remain a living part of the local economy and culture. Participating means immersing yourself in the true rural Ciociaria, far from the most touristy destinations, in a village festival that combines tradition, gastronomy, folklore, and fun.
In 2026, the Agriculture Festival of Sabina di Atina returns in a concentrated one-day format on Saturday, July 18, without sacrificing its genuine spirit. The program includes a market fair with agricultural machinery displays, an animal fair with a blessing, a demonstration of sheep cheese production, plowing and threshing trials, and of course, traditional pastoral gastronomy featuring sheep as the star. Free admission.
