When painters paint with wine
The Agosto Torgianese is the major summer event that enlivens the historic center of Torgiano throughout the month. This town in the province of Perugia is known throughout Italy for its wine and the renowned Wine Museum. Every evening, the town fills with art, music, shows, and typical cuisine, in a convivial atmosphere that attracts visitors from all over Umbria.
The heart of the festival is the Vinarelli evening, an event that has been held for decades and has no equal. As the organizers explain, it is not a competition or an impromptu event: Torgiano's painter friends dilute the colors of their paintings with wine, transforming the town's streets into an open-air studio. The works created are then donated to the organization, which sells them, allocating the proceeds to socio-artistic-cultural interventions.
The Vinarelli perfectly embody Torgiano's identity, where art, territory, and wine tradition merge. The event is promoted by the Pro Loco of Torgiano (local tourism board) together with the municipal administration, and over the years it has become a symbol of the town's creativity.
The 2026 edition of Agosto Torgianese confirms the formula that makes the entire month of August a major event in the historic center of Torgiano: every evening, art, music, shows, and typical cuisine liven up the village streets. The main event remains the Vinarelli evening, when Torgiano's painter friends transform the squares into an open-air studio by painting with wine. The works are donated to the organization and sold to support socio-artistic-cultural initiatives in the area.
Agosto Torgianese 2026 unfolds throughout the month with evenings of art, music, shows, and gastronomy in the historic center. The detailed schedule of individual evenings and the exact date of the Vinarelli evening will be announced by the Pro Loco of Torgiano on their official channels and on the website vinarelli.it closer to the event. In recent years, the Vinarelli evening has typically taken place in the second half of the month.
Torgiano is located a few kilometers from Perugia, reachable by car from the E45 (Torgiano-Bettona exit). Nearest airport: Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi.
Admission to the Agosto Torgianese and Vinarelli events is free. The works created during the Vinarelli evening are sold for charity.
