A summer in the spirit of Quasimodo

Agosto Quasimodiano is the cultural festival that brings the Salvatore Quasimodo Literary Park to life every year in Roccalumera, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Messina, Sicily, overlooking the Ionian Sea. It is here, in the places of the poet's childhood, that the park preserves the memory of the 1959 Nobel Prize for Literature and celebrates his legacy with a calendar of events concentrated in the heart of summer.

Where it all happens

The festival takes place in the park's most characteristic settings, just a stone's throw from the old Roccalumera train station: the garden-museum, the evocative Train-Museum housed in antique carriages, and the medieval Saracen Tower. These are settings with strong symbolic value, as Salvatore Quasimodo spent part of his youth here and drew inspiration for many of his most famous verses.

What to expect

The Agosto Quasimodiano program is multidisciplinary, bringing together different facets of Sicilian culture:

• Book presentations dedicated to the poet and his land, with the participation of scholars and authors;
• Poetry readings, moments where the voice restores the power of Quasimodo's verses;
• Art exhibitions, including sculpture and painting displays by Sicilian artists;
• Concerts as part of the "I Concerti nel Parco" musical series, curated by the Accademia Filarmonica di Messina;
• Screenings of short films and theatrical performances.

Promoted by the Club Amici di Quasimodo with the support of the Municipality of Roccalumera, the park is one of the most active literary parks in Italy and has received significant institutional recognition over time. Agosto Quasimodiano represents the most vibrant moment of its programming, attracting poetry enthusiasts, tourists, and visitors curious to discover the places that served as the backdrop for the development of one of the greatest poets of the 20th century.
