The summer cultural festival at the Salvatore Quasimodo Literary Park in Roccalumera
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Agosto Quasimodiano is the cultural festival that brings the Salvatore Quasimodo Literary Park to life every year in Roccalumera, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Messina, Sicily, overlooking the Ionian Sea. It is here, in the places of the poet's childhood, that the park preserves the memory of the 1959 Nobel Prize for Literature and celebrates his legacy with a calendar of events concentrated in the heart of summer.
The festival takes place in the park's most characteristic settings, just a stone's throw from the old Roccalumera train station: the garden-museum, the evocative Train-Museum housed in antique carriages, and the medieval Saracen Tower. These are settings with strong symbolic value, as Salvatore Quasimodo spent part of his youth here and drew inspiration for many of his most famous verses.
The Agosto Quasimodiano program is multidisciplinary, bringing together different facets of Sicilian culture:
Promoted by the Club Amici di Quasimodo with the support of the Municipality of Roccalumera, the park is one of the most active literary parks in Italy and has received significant institutional recognition over time. Agosto Quasimodiano represents the most vibrant moment of its programming, attracting poetry enthusiasts, tourists, and visitors curious to discover the places that served as the backdrop for the development of one of the greatest poets of the 20th century.
2026 is a special year for the Salvatore Quasimodo Literary Park in Roccalumera: it marks the 125th anniversary of the birth of the poet. The park has already launched a calendar of commemorative initiatives, including the exhibition "Oscuramente forte รจ la vita" dedicated to Salvatore Quasimodo, Maria Cumani, and Alessandro Quasimodo, as well as the archival journey "Tra le carte di Quasimodo".
However, the dates and the specific lineup for the 2026 summer edition of Agosto Quasimodiano have not yet been published. Based on previous editions, a program combining book presentations, poetry readings, exhibitions, and the "I Concerti nel Parco" series is expected. For the updated calendar, we recommend checking the official park website or contacting the organization.
