About Agosto Mottese

Every August, Motta Montecorvino, a charming village in the Monti Dauni of the Foggia province, comes alive with the Agosto Mottese: an entire month of culture, music, and tradition culminating in the Patronal Feast of Saint John the Baptist. The village hosts concerts, folk evenings, gastronomic events, and moments of devotion, concluding with a grand procession, square concerts, and a spectacular fireworks display over the valley.

A full month of festivities in the Monti Dauni

The Agosto Mottese is the summer festival that annually enlivens Motta Montecorvino, a small village perched among the woods of the Monti Dauni, in the hilly, inland heart of the Province of Foggia, Puglia. Throughout August, the village transforms into a widespread stage: musical evenings, cultural events, and celebrations of local traditions and gastronomy fill the historic center, engaging residents and visitors of all ages.

The Patronal Feast of Saint John the Baptist

The heart of the Agosto Mottese is the Patronal Feast of Saint John the Baptist, celebrated in the final days of the month and representing the most significant moment of the year for the local community. Spiritual preparation includes the traditional Triduum in honor of the saint, with the Holy Rosary and evening Mass in the Mother Church. On the day of the feast, the village gathers around the statue of the patron saint in a solemn procession through the streets, accompanied by a brass band and the entire population.

Music, shows, and fireworks

Alongside religious rites, the festival offers a rich entertainment program: concerts in the square, folk and popular music groups, light music evenings, and the classic marching band parading through the center. Recent editions have featured well-known names from the Italian music scene, drawing crowds from neighboring towns in the Monti Dauni. The grand finale is marked by a fireworks display that lights up the valley late at night, bringing the festivities to a close.

A village to discover

Attending the Agosto Mottese is also the perfect opportunity to visit one of the most picturesque villages in the Puglian hinterland: admire the characteristic square medieval tower, wander through stone alleys, enjoy panoramic views of the valley, and experience the warm hospitality typical of the Monti Dauni. Organized by the Motta Montecorvino Festival Committee in collaboration with the Pro Loco and the municipal administration, the event blends devotion, entertainment, and conviviality in an authentic setting, far from the major tourist circuits.

Agosto Mottese — edition 2026

The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced, and the detailed program, including concerts and events, will be communicated by the Festival Committee and the Pro Loco in the weeks leading up to the event.
