Agorà in Collevecchio, theatre returning to its roots

Agorà - Theatre and Music at the Roots is a travelling festival that, for over ten years, has taken live performances out of the major city circuits to reach the outskirts of Rome and the small villages of Lazio. Conceived and artistically directed by Chiara Casarico and organised by the Il NaufragarMèDolce company, the event chooses a network of towns each year to host theatre, music, circus, and storytelling performances, often in places that lack a stable cultural programme. Among the most loyal stops is Collevecchio, a small town in the Sabina area in the province of Rieti, where events are held at the Teatro del Combattente, in Piazza Statuto.

A festival spread across Lazio

The project has a clear regional vocation: in its most recent edition, Agorà reached four provinces — Rieti, Viterbo, Frosinone, and Latina — in addition to the capital, with dozens of events distributed between late summer and autumn. The underlying idea is to turn theatre into a true agora, a meeting place: bringing contemporary authors, national premieres, and children's shows to towns like Collevecchio, Montopoli di Sabina, Percile, Palombara, and Cervara, where the public can attend high-quality productions for free or at a low cost.

What to expect in Collevecchio

The Collevecchio stop usually offers a small programme of evening and afternoon events: civic and narrative theatre for adults, and shows for families and children, featuring live actors and musicians. The Teatro del Combattente, a historic venue overlooking Piazza Statuto, thus becomes the centre of the village's cultural life for a few days.

A project supported by the Lazio Region

Agorà was created by the Il NaufragarMèDolce company and is supported by the Lazio Region as part of the Public Notice for Live Performance, as well as by the 'Otto per Mille' funds of the Waldensian Church. This institutional framework allows the festival to keep most shows free and to reach new towns every year, strengthening the bond between professional theatre and the region's smaller territories. For Collevecchio and the entire Rieti Sabina area, the Agorà stop represents a precious opportunity to rediscover live performance right on their doorstep.
