The historic carnival of the spa town
The Acqui Terme Carnival, known to all as the Carvè di Sgaièntò, is the most anticipated carnival event in Acqui Terme, a spa town in the Alessandria province, located in the heart of the Piedmontese Monferrato. Organized by AcquiEventi in collaboration with the Municipality of Acqui Terme, the event transforms the historic center into a stage for color, music, and popular tradition for an entire day.
The mask of King Sgaièntò
The star of the festival is King Sgaièntò, the symbolic mask of the Acqui carnival, who receives the Keys to the City alongside the Queen. The local dialect term refers to the famous Bollente, the thermal spring that bubbles up in the heart of Acqui Terme: it is precisely in Piazza della Bollente that the evocative King's Scalding Ceremony takes place, the most iconic and beloved moment of the entire event.
Parade of floats and masked groups
The afternoon is dedicated to the grand parade of allegorical floats, which departs from Piazzale Don Dolermo and winds through the city center along Corso Dante, Corso Italia, and Corso Bagni. Alongside the floats, numerous masked groups, marching bands, and folk troupes from various cities in Piedmont and other Italian regions take part. At the end of the parade, in Piazza Italia, the most beautiful floats and groups are awarded, with the Beppe Dominici Trophy presented to the most artistic float.
A festival for the whole city
Throughout the day, between Piazza Italia and the central avenues, the Carnival Fair comes alive with games, fritters, and the characteristic Sgaièntò Market. The event, twinned with the Carnevalone Bistagnese, involves families, children, and visitors, confirming the Carvè di Sgaièntò as one of the most vibrant traditions in the festive calendar of Acqui Terme and the entire Acquese area.

Una 23ª edizione da record
La 23ª edizione del Carvè di Sgaièntò, domenica 22 febbraio 2026, ha raddoppiato le presenze rispetto all'edizione precedente, animando il centro di Acqui Terme con oltre 1.000 figuranti e maschere e 25 unità carnevalesche tra carri e gruppi.
La mattina, in piazza della Bollente, si è tenuta la tradizionale Cerimonia della Scottatura del Re con la Regina e la consegna delle Chiavi della Città a Re Sgaièntò. Nel pomeriggio la grande sfilata dei carri allegorici ha attraversato il centro storico, accompagnata da bande e gruppi folkloristici. In serata, in piazza Italia, la premiazione con il Trofeo Beppe Dominici al carro più artistico.

- Ore 11:00 — Piazza della Bollente: tradizionale Cerimonia della Scottatura del Re con la Regina e consegna delle Chiavi della Città a Re Sgaièntò
- Ore 14:00 — Piazzale Don Dolermo: ritrovo dei partecipanti
- Ore 14:30 — Inizio della sfilata dei carri allegorici e dei gruppi mascherati lungo corso Dante, corso Italia e corso Bagni
- Ore 17:00 — Piazza Italia: premiazione dei carri e dei gruppi mascherati con l'assegnazione del Trofeo Beppe Dominici al carro più artistico
Per tutta la giornata, in piazza Italia e lungo i corsi, Fiera del Carnevale con giochi, frittelle e il Mercatino degli Sgaièntò.
Tra i gruppi partecipanti: Corpo Bandistico Acquese, Compagnia Sbandieratori e Musici di Borgo San Lorenzo, Banda Folkloristica di Barge con Majorette, Gruppo Storico Maschere d'Italia e la BandaRotta Fraudolenta, con maschere provenienti da Novara, Valle d'Aosta, Savona, Asti, Bergamo, Venezia e molte altre città. In caso di maltempo, l'evento era previsto in recupero sabato 28 febbraio.

How to get there
Acqui Terme can be reached by car via the A26 motorway (Ovada or Alessandria Sud exits) and by state roads. The city is served by the railway station on the Alessandria-Genoa and Asti-Genoa lines.

The events are concentrated in the historic center: Piazza della Bollente, Piazzale Don Dolermo, Piazza Italia, Corso Dante, Corso Italia, and Corso Bagni.
