The road running event in Castel Ivano, in the Trentino Valsugana
The 3 Hills Race is one of the most cherished events on the Trentino running calendar. It takes place every spring in Castel Ivano, a municipality in the Valsugana valley formed by the merger of the villages of Agnedo, Ivano-Fracena, Spera, and Villa Agnedo. It retains the authentic character of a local village race, featuring routes through the hills, crowds cheering along the roads, and hundreds of young runners at the starting line.
The event takes its name from the hills that shape the landscape around the town. The meeting point, start, and finish line are located in the urban park and sports center of the Spera district, which serves as the event's headquarters for the day. The route, which includes some uphill sections, tests athletes over distances that vary according to their age category, from the youngest children to the elite runners.
The 3 Hills Race is organized by the Unione Sportiva Castel Ivano with the approval of the Centro Sportivo Italiano (CSI) of Trento and the collaboration of local associations. The race is valid as the first leg of the CSI provincial road running finals and is open to CSI-registered athletes from Trentino-Alto Adige, Veneto, and Lombardy, as well as FIDAL cardholders and members of other sports promotion bodies according to current agreements. The results also count as a qualifying stage for the CSI National Championship.
With over five hundred participants each year, the 3 Hills Race is much more than a competition: it is a celebration involving families, volunteers, and young athletes. The day concludes with an awards ceremony at the sports center, often featuring special guests from the Trentino athletics scene. The event is held under the patronage of the Municipality of Castel Ivano, the Autonomous Province of Trento, and the Autonomous Region of Trentino-Alto Adige.
The race also preserves the memory of the figures who helped develop local athletics, with trophies and memorials dedicated to the founders and coaches of the area. It is this blend of sport, tradition, and a sense of belonging that makes the 3 Hills Race an unmissable spring appointment in the Valsugana valley.
The 2026 edition was held on Sunday, April 19 in Castel Ivano, confirming its status as one of the most popular events on the Trentino running calendar. The race, organized by the Unione Sportiva Castel Ivano with the approval of the CSI of Trento, attracted over five hundred athletes and served as the first leg of the CSI provincial road running finals.
The edition celebrated the fifty years of activity of Antonio Purin, a reference point for Trentino athletics, and featured Nadia Battocletti as a special guest of honor, a symbol of Trentino's sporting excellence at the national and international level, who was welcomed with enthusiasm by the young athletes during the awards ceremony. The event was held under the patronage of the Municipality of Castel Ivano, the Autonomous Province of Trento, and the Autonomous Region of Trentino-Alto Adige.
Castel Ivano is located in the Valsugana valley, along the SS47 state road between Trento and Bassano del Grappa. By train, the reference station is Villa Agnedo-Ivano Fracena on the Trento-Venice (Valsugana) line. The meeting point, start, and awards ceremony take place at the urban park and sports center in the Spera district.
Registration is exclusively online via the CSI Trento portal by the deadline indicated in the official flyer. For information: [email protected], tel. +39 0461 1821695.
