The art and aesthetics of Japan on display at the Civic Museum of Crema
Yūgen: The Subtle Charm of Japan is the exhibition that the Civic Museum of Crema and Cremasco dedicates to Japanese art and aesthetics. Set up in the Art Gallery, in the Sant'Agostino cultural center, the exhibition guides visitors to discover a world made of elegance, measure, and suggestion, in the heart of the town of Crema, in the province of Cremona.
On display is a selection of Japanese works: woodblock prints, lacquers, stencils for kimonos, decorative objects, and toys. The main collection comes from the Mazzocchi Collection of the Museum of Oriental Art in Coccaglio, supplemented by pieces from private collections and the Mnemosyne Cultural Association.
The exhibition title refers to the Japanese concept of yūgen, described as that moment of epiphany that surprises and reveals the hidden beauty of things. It is the key to understanding a journey that also investigates how Japanese aesthetics have profoundly influenced Western artists, following a previous exhibition dedicated to the graphics of the Viennese Secession and its Nipponic inspirations.
With free admission and no reservation required, Yūgen is a precious opportunity to approach Japanese culture and the dialogue between East and West. An exhibition event that enriches Crema's cultural summer with the delicacy and depth of the art of the Land of the Rising Sun.
