Edition 2025 — World Championship of Pesto in Mortar

The World Championship of Genoese Pesto in Mortar confirms its role with each edition as a grand celebration dedicated to pesto prepared according to tradition. One hundred competitors from around the world compete in the Hall of the Great Council of Palazzo Ducale, using only mortar and pestle, in an event that intertwines competition, gastronomic culture, and side events in the heart of Genoa.

The World Championship of Genoese Pesto in Mortar is now a well-established event on the gastronomic calendar of Genoa, in Liguria. The competition brings together one hundred competitors selected through preliminary rounds in Italy and abroad, who compete in preparing pesto using only a marble mortar and wooden pestle.

Alongside the competition, organized by the Palatifini Association, a rich program of side events dedicated to the culture of pesto and Genoese basil DOP unfolds, making the event a true city celebration.
