The barrier-free sports festival at the Stadio dei Marmi in Rome
The WEmbrace Games have become a staple of the Roman summer: a grand barrier-free sports festival that brings the Stadio dei Marmi "Pietro Mennea" to life every year. This evocative arena, surrounded by marble statues within the Foro Italico complex in Rome, serves as the perfect stage. The event is conceived and promoted by the art4sport Foundation, founded in 2009 by Paralympic foil fencing champion Beatrice "Bebe" Vio Grandis and her family, with the mission of providing prosthetics and sports equipment to children and young people with amputations.
The heart of the event is a unique team challenge: eight teams from across Italy, composed of people with and without disabilities, adults and children, professional athletes, and celebrities, compete in spectacular and engaging trials. The message is simple and universal: diversity is a strength, and everyone has a place on the same team. It is not about winning, but about playing on equal terms and joining forces to break down any physical or mental barrier.
What makes the WEmbrace Games unique is their theatrical scale: each edition revolves around an imaginative theme that turns the stadium into a real-life set. Elaborate staging, live music, lighting, and choreography accompany the challenges, making the evening a full-fledged entertainment event suitable for families and children.
The WEmbrace Games are more than just a festival; they are a concrete gesture of solidarity. The evening's proceeds are entirely donated to the art4sport Foundation projects for the research, development, and funding of prosthetics and sports aids, allowing many young people to practice sports and reclaim their bodies and autonomy.
The setting is the Stadio dei Marmi, in the city of Rome (Lazio region), one of the most iconic sports venues in Italy, at the foot of Monte Mario. Admission to the event is free with online booking subject to availability, serving as an open invitation to participate and share the inclusive spirit of the event. The presence of national sports institutionsโfrom the Italian Paralympic Committee to the world of Italian sportsโconfirms the role of the WEmbrace Games as one of the most important showcases for the culture of inclusion in Italy.
The 14th edition of the WEmbrace Games took place on Monday, June 8, 2026, at the Stadio dei Marmi "Pietro Mennea" in the Foro Italico, Rome. The theme chosen for the year, "Play Wild", transformed the stadium into a wild and primordial world, with sets dedicated to dinosaurs and the prehistoric era, in stark contrast to the classical elegance of the marble statues.
Eight teams composed of people with and without disabilities, adults and children, faced off in three spectacular Jurassic-themed challenges, all in the spirit of teamwork, sharing, and the culture of inclusion.
The evening featured athletes, champions, and celebrities from the world of sports and entertainment. The show was hosted by well-known entertainment figures, creating a festival open to all families.
The evening's proceeds were entirely donated to the art4sport Foundation projects for the research, development, and funding of prosthetics and sports aids for children and young people.
