Pavia Conservatory's jazz between concerts and the city
The Vittadini Jazz Festival is the annual review that the Franco Vittadini Conservatory of Music dedicates to jazz, transforming Pavia into a widespread stage. Born in 2017 with the launch of new jazz courses, the festival reaches its ninth edition in 2026, confirming the Conservatory's commitment to bringing music out of the classrooms and into the city's venues and community.
The program alternates major evening concerts, high-level masterclasses, and Jazz@school musical aperitifs, which liven up cafes and clubs along the Ticino River. The main concerts take place in the Broletto Courtyard (in case of rain, in the Great Hall of Collegio Ghislieri), the monumental heart of Pavia, in the province of Pavia.
The 2026 edition features the Big Band of Milan's Civica School of Music directed by Luca Missiti, the Royal Welsh College of Music from Cardiff led by Andrew Bain, and two evenings presented by the Vittadini Conservatory, including a tribute to Kenny Wheeler and the student ensemble. The masterclasses delve into the languages of big band and improvisation.
Also part of Erasmus projects with European institutions, the Vittadini Jazz Festival combines educational and outreach dimensions, introducing jazz to non-specialist audiences. All concerts are free admission, with booking recommended: a festival model that makes music a shared heritage of the city.
