The summer season of great classical music in Vercelli
The Viotti Festival Summer is the summer classical music series organized by the Camerata Ducale in the town of Vercelli, in the heart of Piedmont. Born as the summer counterpart to the broader Viotti Festival, the event takes place annually from June to August and has established itself as one of the city's most anticipated cultural appointments, dedicated to promoting musical culture, supporting young talent, and celebrating the local territory.
The festival is named after Giovanni Battista Viotti (1755-1824), the celebrated violinist and composer born in Fontanetto Po, in the province of Vercelli, considered one of the fathers of the modern violin school. The entire activity of the Camerata Ducale, led by Maestro Guido Rimonda, founder and soul of the festival, is dedicated to his legacy.
The heart of the summer program consists of Saturday evening recitals at 7:00 PM, hosted in the halls of the prestigious Museo Leone in Vercelli, located on Via Giuseppe Verdi. The series opens with concerts from the Sunrise Prize, dedicated to discovering emerging young international talents, and continues with recitals by established soloists. Recent editions have featured pianists and string players from all over the world, with programs ranging from Bach and Beethoven to Schubert, Schumann, Chopin, and 20th-century composers.
The most anticipated event of the entire season is the traditional Sant'Eusebio Concert, dedicated to the patron saint of Vercelli, held on August 1st in the evocative Basilica of Sant'Andrea, one of the masterpieces of Italian Romanesque-Gothic architecture. The protagonists are Guido Rimonda on violin and conducting, the Camerata Ducale Orchestra, and prestigious vocal soloists, performing sacred and symphonic music.
Beyond Vercelli, the Viotti Festival Summer also brings music to Alagna Valsesia, with concerts and "Viotti Express" experiences that combine travel, guided tours, and music. The festival represents an important cultural engine for the Province of Vercelli and the Piedmont region, capable of attracting audiences and fostering a dialogue between great performers and new generations of musicians.
The sixth summer season of the Viotti Festival takes place in Vercelli from June 6 to August 29, 2026, with recitals hosted at the Museo Leone every Saturday at 7:00 PM. The cycle kicks off with the Sunrise Prize concerts dedicated to emerging young talents.
The protagonists of the recitals at the Museo Leone include pianist Ginevra Costantini Negri, the duo Daniele Sabatini and Simone Rugani, pianist Martina Consonni, violinist Hawijch Elders, the duo Lucia Pagano and Marianna Zonetti, and pianist Nikolay Khozyainov, with programs ranging from Bach and Beethoven to Schubert, Schumann, Grieg, and Chopin.
The highlight is the Sant'Eusebio Concert, scheduled for Saturday, August 1st at 9:00 PM in the Basilica of Sant'Andrea: featuring Guido Rimonda (violin and conducting), the Camerata Ducale Orchestra, soprano Francesca Lombardi Mazzulli, and mezzo-soprano Sofia Beatrice Sala, with music by Gluck, Vivaldi, Mascagni, Bruch, and Pergolesi's Stabat Mater.
Vercelli is easily accessible by train (station on the Turin-Milan line) and by car via the A4 Turin-Milan motorway, taking the Vercelli Ovest or Vercelli Est exit. The Museo Leone is located at Via Giuseppe Verdi 30, in the heart of the historic center, while the Basilica of Sant'Andrea is a few minutes' walk away, near the train station.
Concerts are ticketed; information and reservations are available through the festival box office ([email protected]) and the official website www.viottifestival.it.
Recitals at the Museo Leone are held on Saturdays at 7:00 PM; the Sant'Eusebio Concert at the Basilica of Sant'Andrea begins at 9:00 PM.
