"Vergiate in Piazza" is the grand celebration with which the Municipality of Vergiate, in the province of Varese, celebrates the Republic Day. For the entire day of June 2nd, Piazza Enrico Baj and the town center streets come alive with a program that intertwines institutional moments, sports, engines, and music, from morning until midnight.
Institutions and Citizenship
The most solemn moment is the Civic Baptism dedicated to the newly-eighteen-year-olds, preceded by a breakfast reserved for them and accompanied by the arrival of the Bersaglieri Band. It is the institutional heart of a day that aims to bring young people closer to the values of the Republic.
Ribs, Engines, and Sports
Alongside the official part, the festival offers the Alpini's food stand with its famous ribs, the exhibition of historic and modern motorcycles, sports activities in the town streets (volleyball, basketball), and an art exhibition in the civic hall. Food markets, craftspeople, and live music accompany visitors throughout the day.
Musical Evenings
The evening culminates with a double musical offering: a tribute to Max Pezzali and 883 and traditional folk music (liscio), in two different parts of the center. Vergiate, a town in the lower Varese area near the Ticino Park, thus experiences June 2nd as a great community celebration.
