About Venice Noir

Venice Noir is the international festival dedicated to noir, thriller, and crime fiction that brings some of the most celebrated names in the genre to Venice. Four days of meetings, panels, and dialogues between authors in charming venues, from the Ateneo Veneto to the Sale Apollinee of the Teatro La Fenice. A young event, but already loved by the public and critics, with many free events open to all.

International Noir Arrives in Venice

Venice Noir is Venice's international noir literature festival, born in 2025 from an idea that grew in a bookstore to become a four-day event dedicated to crime, thriller, and genre fiction. Ian Rankin called it "the most beautiful book festival in the world".

Festival Venues

The heart of the festival is the Ateneo Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti, the oldest active cultural institution in the city. Previous editions' venues have also included the Ridotto of the Hotel Monaco – the original salon frequented by Casanova – and the Sale Apollinee of the Teatro La Fenice, locations that amplify the "noir" charm of the lagoon.

Authors from Around the World

The festival attracts leading international authors of crime and thriller fiction – past editions featured names like Ian Rankin, Mick Herron, Lucy Worsley, and Mark Billingham – alongside Italian writers. Many panels are public and free. The event is organized by The Venetian Circle Ets, based in San Marco, Venice (Veneto).
