Comics and Pop Culture at Forte Marghera
Venezia Comics is the festival dedicated to comics and pop culture held at Forte Marghera, the imposing 19th-century fortress overlooking the lagoon in Mestre, within the Municipality of Venice. Organized by the VeneziaComix association, the festival brings together authors, illustrators, cosplayers, gamers, and enthusiasts of all ages for several days.
What it offers
The program ranges from meetings and signings with authors, exhibitions, cosplay, gaming and tournaments, areas dedicated to retro games, board and role-playing games, K-pop, music, and workshops. The event hosts Italian authors and international comic stars, awards ceremonies, and interactive activities for the public.
A Unique Setting
Forte Marghera, with its historic pavilions and outdoor waterfront spaces, offers an exceptional location for a pop festival, far from the clichés of picture-postcard Venice and instead rooted in the cultural life of the mainland. The event is a benchmark for the comic and nerd scene in the Veneto region.
Venice Comics — edition 2026
The 13th edition of Venezia Comics takes place from May 1 to 3, 2026, at Forte Marghera in Mestre, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the VeneziaComix association. The theme for the year is "Mutations", and the artistic direction is entrusted to Giulio De Vita, a comic artist and founder of the PAFF! museum in Pordenone.
International guests include Otto Schmidt, an artist for Marvel and DC (Guardians of the Galaxy, Batman) and the creator of the edition's poster, and Gradimir Smudja, a master of watercolor illustration, recipient of the "Nuvole in Veneto 2026" award. A major new feature is the Retrogames area with over forty arcade cabinets available for free use.
