The Veglio Carnival, a village festival in the Biella area

The Veglio Carnival is the signature carnival event of Veglio, a small village of just over four hundred inhabitants nestled in the mountains of the Province of Biella, in Piedmont. It is a festival deeply rooted in the life of the community, organized every year by the volunteers of the Pro Loco of Veglio, who begin working at the start of the new year to craft a program filled with tradition, joy, and conviviality.

Two beloved events

The Veglio Carnival revolves around two classic events that have become part of the village's heritage:

• The Murder Mystery Dinner: A special evening where guests become investigators, navigating twists, clues, and fine dining. This event is by reservation only and offers a unique experience, perfect for those who love games and mystery.
• The Fagiolata: The most heartfelt and popular moment of the Carnival, featuring a masquerade parade through the village streets, Holy Mass, a blessing, and the distribution of the traditional fagiolata, a hearty bean soup that warms up the winter days in the Biellese mountains.

Masquerades, dancing, and community

On the main day, the village comes alive with a costumed procession, followed by a traditional lunch and an afternoon of dancing for all ages. There is also a focus on the younger generation with an event dedicated to the Children's Carnival, while the program concludes with a convivial gathering featuring an aperitif and an evening of live music and dancing.

An authentic tradition of the Piedmontese mountains

Far from the large-scale mass carnivals, the Veglio Carnival preserves the genuine flavor of a village festival: it is the community of Veglio coming together to welcome visitors and celebrate winter with style. The fagiolata, in particular, is one of those gastronomic rituals that define the Biella region and Piedmont, serving as a symbol of sharing and solidarity.
