Vatolla Onion Festival

10th edition — Genius Loci

In 2025, the Vatolla Onion Festival reached the milestone of the tenth edition, divided into four events: July 19-20, August 2-3, August 9-10, and the final evening on August 23. The theme, «Genius Loci», recalled the spirit of the place and the figure of Giambattista Vico, who lived in the Vatolla castle between 1686 and 1695.

In that edition too, the absolute protagonist was the Vatolla Onion, a traditional product of the Campania Region and a Slow Food Presidium, served at the village stalls in tagliolini with onion ragù, ravioli, parmigiana, soup, meat stew with onion, and fritters, accompanied by traditional desserts and Cilento wines.

The Vatolla Onion Association, led by president Angela Marzucca, had set the program on recovering the sense of community in small villages, rediscovering agricultural biodiversity, and the economic development of the Cilento hinterland, with evenings of folk music, meetings, and cultural activities among the alleys of the historic center of Perdifumo.
