Valsound, the Music of Valsamoggia's Youth

Valsound is the music festival dedicated to young talents held in Valsamoggia, a scattered municipality in the metropolitan city of Bologna, in Emilia-Romagna. Promoted by the Municipality of Valsamoggia together with the Fondazione Rocca dei Bentivoglio, the event combines two aspects: a music contest for emerging bands and musicians from the area, and a concert evening that brings young people on stage at the end of their training path.

The Contest for Emerging Bands

The heart of the project is the Valsound contest, designed to give visibility to young bands from the Samoggia Valley. Selected bands have the opportunity to play live in front of a real audience, testing their technical skills and repertoire. This initiative is part of the broader musical training work carried out in the area by the G. Fiorini Music School, a historic educational institution of the Fondazione Rocca dei Bentivoglio.

The Final Concert at Villa Stagni

The highlight is the concluding concert, hosted in the evocative setting of Villa Stagni - Torre Cattanei, in the hamlet of Crespellano. On stage are the rock, pop, and jazz groups formed by students from local music schools—the G. Fiorini of Valsamoggia, the G. Capitanio of Ozzano dell'Emilia, and the L. Da Vinci High School of Casalecchio di Reno—along with the participants of the Valsound contest. A collective showcase where the youngest demonstrate talent and skill to the community.

An Evening of Celebration

Valsound is not just music. The evening dedicated to Valsamoggia's young bands has the flavor of an Emilian village festival: street food by T-poh offers piadine and other local specialties, accompanied by craft beer from the Zapap brewery. Admission to the concert is by free donation, emphasizing popular participation and support for young musicians.

In the Spirit of Corti, Chiese e Cortili

The event is linked to the area's great summer musical tradition, particularly the Corti, Chiese e Cortili (Courtyards, Churches, and Courtyards) festival organized by the Fondazione Rocca dei Bentivoglio, which for decades has enlivened the villages, villas, and courtyards of the Bolognese hills with concerts and shows, with a particular focus on young talents. Valsound represents the youngest and most contemporary piece of this rich calendar.
