The Fomarco Special Stage is one of the most characteristic and anticipated sections of the Valli Ossolane Rally, the major car race that brings the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola Province in Piedmont to life every year. The stage is run entirely within the territory of the Municipality of Pieve Vergonte: the start is set at the municipal sports field, from which the cars launch uphill toward the hamlet of Fomarco.

At 4.40 kilometers long, the "Fomarco" is a short but intense test, capable of challenging drivers and crews on a surface that alternates between speed and technical precision. Organized by the New Turbomark Rally Team, the stage has been a benchmark for years for enthusiasts who line the route to experience the thrill of the race up close.

Iconic jumps and the "Fumarc da travers" hairpin

The Fomarco track is famous for its two iconic jumps in the initial section: the first, a couple of kilometers from the start, is located on a particularly spectacular right-hand curve; the second, near the crest, where a significant compression leads into the subsequent descent.

The most famous section, however, is the right-hand hairpin toward the finish, nicknamed by local fans "Fumarc da travers": a passage that has become an icon of the stage, where every year the cars deliver the best "slides" and the most applauded drifts. From there, the stage changes rhythm, alternating technical and fast sections with decisive braking before the final meters toward the finish line.

Fomarco is one of the main special stages of the 62nd edition of the Valli Ossolane Rally, scheduled for June 13 and 14, 2026, and valid as the second round of the Italian Rally Challenger Championship (CIR Challenger) and the Zone 2 Rally Cup. The race Sunday features two passes on the Pieve Vergonte stage, which is part of a broader route including other historic stages of the event, from the long "Cannobina" to the "DomoBianca365".

For the local public, the Fomarco Special Stage represents much more than just a timed section: it is a festive moment that involves the residents of Pieve Vergonte and neighboring towns, in a territory where the passion for rallying has been a deep-rooted tradition for over sixty years.
