About Un Altro Mondo

Un Altro Mondo is the summer festival in Calenzano, near Florence, dedicated to the themes of peace, solidarity, and international cooperation. From June 22 to July 17, 2026, ten events—including film screenings, discussions, personal testimonies, and charity dinners—will bring the local social clubs, the library, and the Castle garden to life. Promoted by the Municipality of Calenzano in partnership with numerous local associations, the festival offers a free program that bridges international current affairs, civic engagement, and community spirit.

Un Altro Mondo: peace and solidarity in Calenzano

Un Altro Mondo is the festival that transforms Calenzano, a town in the Metropolitan City of Florence, Tuscany, into a vibrant hub for reflection on the great issues of our time: peace, solidarity, and international cooperation. Now in its second edition in 2026, the event stems from the commitment of the Municipality of Calenzano and the Department of International Cooperation to give voice to these themes, actively involving citizens, local associations, and volunteer groups.

Ten events featuring cinema, meetings, and dinners

From June 22 to July 17, 2026, the program features ten events alternating between film screenings, meetings with experts and witnesses, performances, and social gatherings. The festival opens with three evenings dedicated to Palestinian cinema (June 22, 25, and 29), featuring the films La voce di Hind Rajab, The Sea, and Tutto quello che resta di te, hosted in local social clubs and the charming Castle garden.

  • June 24 - In collaboration with the Municipality of Vicchio, the "Children's Flotilla" initiative dedicated to peace and the message of Don Lorenzo Milani.
  • July 2 - An evening on Palestine at the La Vedetta social club: a charity dinner supporting the Italian-Palestinian Friendship Association, followed at 9:15 PM by the meeting "From words to action: from reception to integration."
  • July 5 - An in-depth look at the crisis in Sudan, with the participation of Emergency and expert doctors and journalists.
  • July 6 - A theatrical performance featuring the autobiographical story of Mamadou Diakitè, originally from the Ivory Coast.
  • July 9 - A day of sport and fraternity, including a visit to Viola Park and a tournament at the Magnolfi stadium featuring Sahrawi children and local football clubs, followed by a dinner.
  • July 17 - In Legri, the story of the journey of the Defender vehicle donated by Calenzano for solidarity projects in Africa.

A free-admission program

All festival events are free to attend, with the exception of the dinners, which are organized to raise funds for the associations and projects supported by the festival. This format, which combines information, culture, and social interaction, makes Un Altro Mondo a precious opportunity for the Calenzano community to engage with global issues starting from their own local territory.

Calenzano and its surroundings

Located at the gates of Florence, at the foot of the Apennines and a short distance from the Florentine Plain, Calenzano preserves a historic center gathered around the Castle, which serves as the venue for many of the festival's events. The event is part of a broader tradition of civic engagement and volunteerism that characterizes this corner of Tuscany, offering residents and visitors a summer calendar focused on participation and active citizenship.
