Wine tastings and local flavors in the village overlooking Lake Turano
Turano DiVino is the wine festival that transforms the historic center of Castel di Tora into a vast open-air tasting trail every June. The village, set among the mountains of the Rieti province and overlooking the emerald waters of Lake Turano, is considered one of the most picturesque in Lazio: its stone alleys, small squares, and lake views provide the perfect backdrop for an event that unites oenology, gastronomy, and culture.
The heart of the event is the tasting trail winding through the village streets. Along the route, visitors can discover over 100 labels, ranging from well-known names to small-batch productions, with a special focus on wineries from Lazio and major national wines. AIS Lazio sommeliers are on hand to guide tastings, helping the public identify aromas, nuances, and food pairings.
The concept for the 2026 edition is "The best of Lazio meets great national wines": alongside regional productions, labels from various Italian regions are featured, fostering a direct dialogue between enthusiasts and producers.
Wine tastings are paired with food stalls showcasing specialties from the Rieti and Lazio regions, designed to highlight the harmony between wine and traditional cuisine. A highlight of the 2026 edition is the French Corner, held on Sunday, featuring a selection of prestigious French labels to bridge some of Europe’s most important winemaking traditions.
The days are enriched by free concerts in Piazza San Giovanni. The weekend alternates between different genres, from rock-blues to fusions of electronic music and acoustic instruments, providing entertainment for all to enjoy alongside their tastings.
Turano DiVino is part of a broader cultural and social regeneration project for the 2Borghi del Turano, supported by European funds and the Ministry of Culture, aimed at promoting slow tourism, local food and wine, and the rediscovery of small towns in the upper Turano Valley. In just a few editions, the event has become one of the most anticipated wine gatherings in the province of Rieti.
The 2026 edition of Turano DiVino, under the concept "The best of Lazio meets great national wines", offered a tasting trail through the alleys of Castel di Tora with over 100 labels and the guidance of AIS Lazio sommeliers. A major highlight of the year was the French Corner, reserved for Sunday, featuring a selection of prestigious French labels.
The event opened on Saturday, June 13, with an afternoon and evening session, featuring a concert by the Mark Hanna Band (rock-blues) at 9:00 PM in Piazza San Giovanni. On Sunday, June 14, starting at 12:30 PM, the focus shifted to French wines, followed at 3:30 PM by a performance by Green Clouds, who blend violin, oboe, and electronic sounds.
Throughout both days, a food and wine trail wound through the village alleys, featuring wineries from Lazio and other Italian regions.
Castel di Tora is located in the province of Rieti, Lazio, on the shores of Lake Turano. By car, it can be reached from the A24 Rome-L'Aquila motorway (take the Carsoli-Oricola or Vicovaro-Mandela exit) and continuing along the provincial roads towards the Turano Valley. The village is about an hour and a half from Rome.
Admission to the event is free and open to all, with no booking required. In previous editions, free parking and shuttle services were provided to reach the historic center.
We recommend wearing comfortable shoes for the village's stone alleys and setting aside time to enjoy the view of the lake. For updated information on times and participating wineries, please refer to the official website of the 2Borghi del Turano project.
