The cross-country race in the woods of the Monti Lepini, in Patrica
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Trofeo XC Sentiero Natura is the cross-country race that enlivens Patrica every late summer, a village overlooking the Sacco valley in the Province of Frosinone, in Lazio. The event is hosted at the Sentiero Natura in the Macchia Resignano area, a green space reclaimed by the municipal administration on the slopes of the Monti Lepini and made available to local sports associations.
The track is a loop of approximately 5 kilometres on red dirt, described by the organizers themselves as fast and flowing. It winds through a forest of oaks, chestnut trees, and other tall trees, featuring climbs and descents, banked turns, shaded sections, and some artificial obstacles. It is an entirely unpaved circuit, technical enough to select the best riders but rideable enough to remain fun even for youth categories.
The event is conceived and managed by APD Ciociaria Bike, a cycling club that has been organizing MTB events on this track for several years, chaired by Tonino Bufalini. The event is sponsored by the Municipality of Patrica and supported by the Lazio Regional Committee of the Italian Cycling Federation. Over the years, the Trophy has become a permanent fixture in the federal XCO discipline calendar.
The race is open to all competitive age groups and is usually held in two heats: the first reserved for Open, Master, and Junior categories, the second for Esordienti and Allievi. Recent editions have seen around a hundred bikers at the start. The Trofeo XC Sentiero Natura also holds special value for the area: it awards the XCO Provincial Champion jerseys for teams of the Frosinone Provincial Committee. On days dedicated to the youngest, a short track race for the Giovanissimi category is also included.
The awards ceremony reflects the spirit of the Trophy, closer to a village festival than a commercial event:
The Trofeo XC Sentiero Natura is part of the Estate Patricana program, the summer festival of the Municipality of Patrica which, from late June to September, alternates concerts, nature excursions, art installations, shows, and gastronomic events in the historic centre. The mountain bike race represents its sporting and outdoor soul, effectively closing the village's summer season.
Visitors from outside the region will find a typically Ciociarian setting: a perched medieval village, views over the Sacco valley, dense woods just minutes from the town, and village hospitality provided by volunteers, registration desks in the shade, and refreshments with local products. Even for those who are not racing, the Sentiero Natura remains a hiking area accessible all year round, suitable for walking and cycling.
At the moment, the official dates for the 2026 edition of the Trofeo XC Sentiero Natura in Patrica, in the province of Frosinone, have not been published. However, the event has had a consolidated annual frequency since 2021 and usually takes place around the last weekend of August, when the Sentiero Natura in the Macchia Resignano area is set up as a cross-country circuit.
To find out the date, times, and registration methods, it is advisable to follow the channels of APD Ciociaria Bike and the federal XCO calendar of Lazio, as well as the Estate Patricana program released by the Municipality of Patrica.
Patrica can be reached by car via the A1 Rome-Naples motorway, taking the Frosinone exit, then the SS156 of the Monti Lepini towards Supino; the Sentiero Natura is located in the Macchia Resignano area, above the town, and is indicated by municipal signs. By train, the most convenient station is Frosinone, on the Rome-Cassino line, about 15 kilometres away; from there, it is necessary to continue by car. Reference airports: Rome Fiumicino and Rome Ciampino.
The race is a federal event: registration is handled through cycling clubs and the channels of the Italian Cycling Federation. The meeting is generally scheduled for early morning, with the start in the late morning. For the public, access to the area is free.
The forest offers shade, but late August days can be hot: bring water, a hat, and shoes suitable for dirt paths. In the historic centre of Patrica, there are bars and trattorias; for overnight stays, the widest choice is in Frosinone or the nearby villages of Supino and Ceccano.
