The floriculture fair that announces spring in Trieste
There's a time, every late March, when Trieste seems to gather under the plane trees of Viale XX Settembre — the famous "Aqueduct," one of the city's most beloved promenades. It's when Trieste in Fiore – Spring Delights arrives, the floriculture fair that for over twenty years has marked the symbolic start of the warmer season in the Julian capital. For nine days, the tree-lined avenue, from Largo Bonifacio to Via Rossetti, is adorned with colours and scents, becoming an urban garden to wander through at leisure.
Along the avenue, over thirty-five exhibitors, both Italian and international, line up: nursery owners, floriculturists, and artisans offer roses, hydrangeas, succulents, citrus plants, olive trees, palms, and geraniums, as well as outdoor furniture, essences, seeds, and decorative items for the home and garden. It's the ideal opportunity for those who tend to their balconies or terraces, but also simply to be inspired by combinations and innovations in the sector. There's also a gastronomic section with local products, oil, herb-infused cheeses, truffles, and artisanal sweets.
Trieste in Fiore is not just a market: alongside the stands, there are educational initiatives designed for families and schools, workshops that introduce young and old to the world of plants, and environmental awareness activities — the most recent edition dedicated the event to a message related to climate change. A traditional highlight of the festival is the Golden Flower contest, which awards the most beautiful and well-curated displays among the exhibitors.
Organized by COMTS with the support of the Municipality of Trieste and the Province, the fair is now a classic of the Julian spring: free entry, continuous hours from morning to evening, and a location in the city center that makes it easily accessible on foot. A perfect stop for those visiting Trieste in March who want to soak up the authentic atmosphere of the city.
