The mountain bike gran fondo through the villages of Tuscia, in the heart of Lazio
The Tre Castelli MTB Gran Fondo – City of Faleria is a mountain bike event held annually in Faleria, a charming village in the Province of Viterbo, Northern Lazio. Organized as part of the Pedalatium Off Road circuit, the race attracts hundreds of participants each year—from serious competitors to leisure cyclists—who tackle the trails and dirt paths of the Tuscia region for a day dedicated to cycling.
The event takes its name from the three municipalities crossed by the route: Faleria, Calcata, and Rignano Flaminio. These are three hilltop villages steeped in history, nestled in the Treja Valley and the countryside marking the border between the provinces of Viterbo and Rome. Calcata, in particular, is famous as an ancient artists' village perched on a tuff cliff. As they pedal along the course, participants discover an authentic landscape of forests, gorges, streams, and scenic vistas across the Lazio countryside.
The course spans approximately 40–44 kilometers, with an elevation gain that has reached nearly 1,300 meters in recent editions. The route alternates between smooth dirt roads, steady yet demanding climbs, and technical sections and descents, offering a comprehensive challenge suitable for well-trained bikers. The event generally offers two formats: the competitive Point to Point and the leisure cycling option, which is more accessible for those who want to enjoy the scenery without the pressure of a stopwatch.
The Tre Castelli Gran Fondo is a stop on the Pedalatium Off Road circuit, which brings together some of the most beautiful mountain bike gran fondos in Lazio, including events in Labico, the Altopiano delle Rocche, Leonessa, and Subiaco. Affiliated with national sports promotion bodies, the circuit offers a calendar that keeps bikers active throughout the season, from spring to autumn.
Beyond the sporting aspect, the day is a true celebration for the entire Municipality of Faleria: the town center, including Piazza Garibaldi and Via Belvedere, comes alive with stands, refreshment points, and volunteers. The event showcases the Tuscia territory and promotes cycle tourism as a slow, sustainable way to discover the villages and countryside of Lazio.
The third edition of the Tre Castelli MTB Gran Fondo – City of Faleria opened the 2026 season of the Pedalatium Off Road circuit. The event was held over two days: Saturday was dedicated to material collection and registration, while Sunday hosted the race itself, with the start and finish on Via Belvedere.
The main route, covering approximately 40 kilometers, traversed the territories of Faleria, Calcata, and Rignano Flaminio, featuring smooth dirt tracks, steady climbs, and glimpses of the Lazio countryside.
