The premier meeting place for travel photography in Rome
The Travel Photography Gathering is the national meeting that brings together those who love to combine two passions every year in Rome: traveling and photography. Founded in 2016 and organized by the Viaggio Fotografico association led by Roberto Gabriele and Simona Ottolenghi, the gathering has become a benchmark for professional photographers, travel guides, amateurs, and enthusiasts who meet for two intense days of stories, images, and shared experiences. You don't need to be an expert photographer or a world traveler: the event is designed to welcome anyone looking for inspiration.
The heart of the gathering beats at Officine Fotografiche on Via Giuseppe Libetta 1, in the historic Ostiense district of Rome, in the Province of Rome, Lazio. This space, which has served as a photography school and laboratory in the capital for years, hosts the main stage, breakout rooms, and the marketplace "piazzetta," where partners and industry players exhibit books, gear, and travel proposals. The opening evening is held at a second venue in the city center, dedicated to the exhibition of the annual contest winners.
The program is structured as a long choral narrative: photographers and travelers take turns on stage to share their reportage, with presentations dedicated to distant and fascinating destinations. There is no shortage of interviews with prominent authors, panel discussions among professionals who lead photography tours, and moments for debate on techniques, storytelling, and the ethics of travel photography. A live multimedia event, created with shots sent in by participants, ideally closes the first day, turning the audience into the protagonists.
The gathering is linked to the Travel Tales Award, the travel photography contest promoted by Viaggio Fotografico. The winning images are celebrated with an exhibition that opens the event and remains one of the most anticipated moments, capable of capturing the variety of perspectives and stories that animate the world of travel in just a few photographs.
One of the hallmarks of the Travel Photography Gathering is its free and open nature: no registration or booking is required; you can come and go as you please throughout the days. You can bring friends and family, stop by to listen to a single talk, or experience the entire marathon of meetings. This informal and welcoming formula, combined with the quality of the speakers, makes the Roman gathering an unmissable stop for anyone in Lazio and across Italy who dreams of telling the story of the world through photography.
The Travel Photography Gathering returned to Rome for its seventh edition, once again hosted by Officine Fotografiche in the Ostiense district. Three days entirely dedicated to travel photography, with free admission, featuring visual storytelling, meetings with authors, and moments of exchange between enthusiasts.
Friday, March 13 (4:00 PM - 8:00 PM) at the OTTO Gallery on Piazza Mazzini 27, the exhibition of the Travel Tales Award 2025 winners was inaugurated. Saturday, March 14, and Sunday, March 15, at Officine Fotografiche, the main program took place with fourteen hours of meetings, in addition to the marketplace "piazzetta" with the event's partners.
Officine Fotografiche is located at Via Giuseppe Libetta 1, in the Ostiense district of Rome. By metro, the most convenient stop is Garbatella (Line B), just a few minutes' walk away. The area is also served by several bus lines and the Roma Ostiense station. By car, it is advisable to consider urban traffic restrictions and local parking.
Admission is free and open to all, with no registration or booking required. The main days typically run from morning to evening, with an opening evening dedicated to the Travel Tales Award winners' exhibition. You can enter and exit freely during the meetings.
