In the heart of summer, the village of Tonadico — a hamlet in the municipality of Primiero San Martino di Castrozza, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige) — transforms for five days into the Paese dei Balocchi. It is one of the most beloved children's events in the Primiero Valley, a staple of the summer season that draws families from across the basin and neighboring villages, right at the foot of the Pale di San Martino.

A world of play in the Dolomites

The nerve center of the festival is the Via Fuganti sports area, along with the large festival tent. Here, throughout the afternoon and into the evening, little ones find a true open-air playground: inflatable structures, a climbing wall, a reading area curated in collaboration with the Intermunicipal Library of Fiera di Primiero, and countless opportunities for fun.

Shows, workshops, and tradition

The program alternates between free play and guided activities. Each day features creative and craft workshops, nature-based activities designed to help children discover the local area, and the delicious merenda del goloso with traditional afternoon treats. Evenings are dedicated to performances: street theater, circus shows with jugglers and acrobats, puppet shows, and live entertainment. The festival concludes with the high-energy Baby Disco Show, featuring a children's dinner accompanied by music and dancing.

A local event

The Paese dei Balocchi is organized by the Tonadighi Strighi Association, a local volunteer group, with the support of the San Martino di Castrozza, Passo Rolle, Primiero and Vanoi Tourist Board. It is a festival built by the community for the community, combining children's fun with the promotion of Primiero's local traditions. The free access to play areas (with small contributions for some workshops and shows) makes it an ideal destination for a family vacation in the Trentino mountains.
