About Theater of the Fairy Tale and Poetry

In the heart of the village of Montalto delle Marche, in the province of Ascoli Piceno, the Theater of the Fairy Tale and Poetry hosts a season of prose, music, and contemporary theater curated by the Municipality together with AMAT. Featuring big names from the Italian scene, musicals, civil narration, and multidisciplinary residencies of the Metroborgo MontaltoLab project, it is an intimate and high-quality review that brings nationally renowned shows to the inner Marche region.

A Season of Theater in the Piceno Village

The Theater of the Fairy Tale and Poetry in Montalto delle Marche, a small gem in the historic center of the Municipality in the province of Ascoli Piceno, is the beating heart of the cultural life of this village in the Piceno hinterland. Every year, between winter and spring, the historic municipal theater on Corso Vittorio Emanuele comes alive with a theatrical season curated by the Municipality of Montalto delle Marche together with AMAT (Marchigiana Association of Theatrical Activities), with the contribution of the Marche Region and the Ministry of Culture.

The program combines prose, musicals, narration, and civil theater, bringing artists and companies of national importance to a village of a few thousand inhabitants. It is proof that even the inner Marche region can offer a quality cultural program, capable of attracting spectators from all over the Ascolano and Fermano areas.

The Metroborgo MontaltoLab Project

The season is part of the broader Metroborgo MontaltoLab project, which saw Montalto delle Marche selected as a pilot village within the framework of cultural regeneration initiatives linked to PNRR funds. Alongside evening performances, the project develops multidisciplinary residencies, workshops, and public presentation events involving citizens, schools, and families, intertwining theater with the social regeneration of the territory.

A Program Featuring Great Performers and Civil Theater

The programming ranges from classics reinterpreted in a contemporary key to great monologues of Italian civil theater. Over the years, names such as Ascanio Celestini, Galatea Ranzi, Marina Massironi, Fabio Troiano, Roberto Mercadini, and Elena Bucci have performed on the Montalto stage, confirming the level of a review that does not shy away from comparison with theaters in large cities.

An Intimate Experience

The cozy hall of the Theater of the Fairy Tale and Poetry offers an intimate relationship between stage and audience, an atmosphere rarely found in large theaters. Attending a show here means experiencing theater in an authentic dimension, immersed in the charm of a historic village in the southern Marche region.
