The Pleasure of Theatre

A festival that is a community story

"The Pleasure of Theatre" is the amateur theatre festival of the Municipality of Tesero, in the province of Trento, in the heart of Val di Fiemme. Organized by the "Lucio Deflorian" Filodrammatica in collaboration with the Municipal Department of Culture, the event has been held every year since 1992 at the Cinema Teatro Comunale on Via Noval, the cultural hub of this Trentino village.

The company behind it is among the oldest in Trentino: the Tesero amateur theatre group was founded in 1871 and is now named after Lucio Deflorian, a historic leader of the group who passed away in the 1985 Stava tragedy. These deep roots make this festival much more than just a season of shows: it is a collective ritual that gathers the community around the stage every winter.

The season program

The festival unfolds throughout the winter, from late autumn to spring, featuring four subscription-based theatre evenings along with special off-bill events. The program features a mix of brilliant comedies, musical shows, and dialect productions performed by numerous amateur theatre companies from the Trentino region, which keeps a particularly vibrant amateur theatre tradition alive throughout the area.

• Comedies presented by guest companies such as the amateur groups from Mezzocorona, Fornace, and Predazzo;
• Shows and musical comedies produced by the Filo di Tesero itself;
• Special evenings such as the theatrical dinner and musical-theatre fairy tales created with the local Music School and Dance Center;
• A prologue that officially opens the season every November.

With over 150 season-ticket holders confirmed year after year, "The Pleasure of Theatre" is a landmark for enthusiasts in Val di Fiemme and the surrounding valleys. The season ticket guarantees a seat for the entire festival, while individual show tickets remain accessible to everyone, with rates designed to encourage participation from families and young people.

Tesero and Val di Fiemme

Located at an altitude of about 900 meters along the Avisio stream, Tesero is a Trentino village known for its artisanal traditions, nativity scenes, and proximity to the cross-country skiing tracks of Lago di Tesero, which hosts international competitions. Attending a show at "The Pleasure of Theatre" means experiencing an authentic fragment of mountain life, where popular culture and a love for the stage are passed down from generation to generation.
