Food, wine, crafts, and Salento pizzica music in Maruggio
The Night of the Black Sheep makes its debut in Maruggio, an elegant village in the province of Taranto overlooking the Ionian Sea, on Friday, July 24, 2026, starting at 8:00 PM. This first edition transforms the historic center into a journey of taste, music, and tradition, spanning Piazza del Popolo and Via Vittorio Emanuele.
The heart of the evening lies in the food and wine stalls dedicated to the authentic flavors of the Salento region of Puglia. Wine is the star of the show, thanks to the participation of the Consorzio di Tutela del Primitivo di Manduria, which brings one of Southern Italy's most celebrated red wines to Maruggio. Alongside the tastings, craft and hobbyist stalls offer unique handmade creations and local products.
The soundtrack of the night is pizzica: engaging tambourine circles will animate the streets of the center, leading up to the concert by the Scazzacataranta, who blend the rhythms of pizzica with modern musical influences. It is a journey into the popular soul of Salento, filled with traditional dances, songs, and folk tunes.
Organized by the Associazione The Black Sheep with the patronage of the Municipality of Maruggio and the Puglia Region, The Night of the Black Sheep was created as an evening designed to experience the authentic heart of the territory through tradition, music, taste, and freedom. Admission is free, making it a festival open to both residents and visitors in the height of the Ionian summer.
