The Charcoal Trail

In 2025, The Charcoal Trail once again brought hikers and curious visitors along the paths of the Sassetta woods, in the Province of Livorno, to rediscover the ancient tradition of carbonization. The event, organized by the Pubblica Assistenza of Sassetta with the patronage of the Municipality, confirmed its popular format: a hiking loop in the woods of the Upper Cecina Valley, punctuated by demonstration stops where one could observe the charcoal burners at work and refreshment points with dishes from the Charcoal Burner's Menu. A day that combines hiking, rural memory, and local gastronomy, enhancing the natural and cultural heritage of the Maremma village.
