About The Cellars

Every August, Sant'Angelo Le Fratte, the 'village of cellars', opens its caves dug into Monte Carpineto for a grand food and wine tour. Featuring Aglianico wine, cheeses, cured meats, and traditional Lucanian dishes, live music, and street artists, the village of murals transforms into a widespread celebration through the alleys of the historic center.

The Village of Cellars

Sant'Angelo Le Fratte, in the Province of Potenza, is known as "the village of cellars": dozens of caves dug entirely into Monte Carpineto, which overlooks the town, once used for aging and preserving wine. Once a year, in mid-August, these cellars open to the public and give life to Le Cantine, one of Basilicata's most beloved food and wine events.

A Journey Through Wine and Flavors

The event is a fascinating journey through the alleys of the historic center: from cellar to cellar, visitors can taste local wines, starting with Aglianico, accompanied by cheeses, cured meats, and typical Lucanian dishes like cavatelli with 'pezzente' sauce. Each cave becomes a small corner of conviviality, where producers and local families welcome visitors in an authentic and warm atmosphere.

Music, Art, and Murals

Tastings are intertwined with entertainment: street artists, live music, and craft exhibitions liven up the evenings. The backdrop is provided by the famous murals that decorate the village facades, making Sant'Angelo Le Fratte a true open-air museum. The combination of artistic heritage and food and wine tradition makes this festival a complete experience.

Organized by the Pro Loco

The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Sant'Angelo Le Fratte, which attracts thousands of visitors to the village each year. With over twenty-five editions, Le Cantine is now a classic of the Lucanian summer, capable of combining the discovery of the territory with the pleasure of good food.

The Cellars — edition 2026

The 27th edition of The Cellars of Sant'Angelo Le Fratte takes place from August 12 to 14, 2026: three evenings of tastings in the caves dug into Monte Carpineto, featuring wines, cheeses, cured meats, traditional Lucanian dishes, live music, and street artists.
