Living nativity scene, artisan nativity exhibition, and local flavors in the village of Librizzi

In the heart of the Nebrodi Mountains, the town of Librizzi (province of Messina, Sicily) hosts The Bethlehem Village, a Christmas event that recreates the nativity through a living nativity scene spread across the village streets. Launched in 2023, the event has quickly become one of the most cherished winter traditions, drawing visitors from neighboring towns and engaging the entire community.
The route winds through the picturesque Forgia Superiore district, where narrow alleys and ancient stone houses provide a natural backdrop. Costumed performers bring the Holy Family, shepherds, and the Three Wise Men to life, accompanied by reconstructions of ancient trades and traditional rural life, complete with workshops, open fires, and artisanal activities.
Alongside the living nativity, the event features a traveling exhibition of artisan nativity scenes, carefully crafted with traditional materials, and a gastronomic tour highlighting the typical products of the Nebrodi region. Christmas sweets, traditional dishes, and local specialties accompany the visit, offering an experience that blends spirituality, culture, and conviviality.
Organized by the Municipality of Librizzi with the support of local associations and the Pro Loco, The Bethlehem Village offers free admission and is open to everyone. The event is part of the rich Sicilian tradition of living nativity scenes that animate dozens of villages across the island during the Christmas season, representing a unique opportunity for Librizzi to celebrate its roots and welcome visitors to this authentic corner of the Messina Nebrodi.
For the 2026 edition of The Bethlehem Village in Librizzi, no official dates or program have been released yet. Based on previous editions, the event is held during the Christmas season, between late December and early January, in the Forgia Superiore district. The event is expected to confirm the format of a widespread living nativity scene, an artisan nativity exhibition, and a tour of local Nebrodi flavors. Information will be updated as soon as the Municipality of Librizzi publishes the official calendar.
Librizzi is located in the Nebrodi Mountains, in the province of Messina. By car, it can be reached via the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, taking the Patti-San Piero Patti exit and continuing inland. The nearest train station is Patti-San Piero Patti, on the Tyrrhenian line.
Admission is free. The event generally takes place in the late afternoon and evening in the Forgia Superiore district. Dates and times for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: we recommend checking the Librizzi municipal website and official channels for updates.
