Tractors, mass, and blessing of agricultural vehicles in Orzivecchi
In Orzivecchi, a Municipality in the Province of Brescia in the heart of the agricultural Bassa region, the Thanksgiving Festival is the moment when the town gives thanks for the fruits of the land. Promoted by the Agriculture Commission together with the Municipality and the Parish of Saints Peter and Paul, it is one of the most cherished autumn events.
The day begins in the morning with the gathering of vintage and modern tractors in Piazzale Unità d'Italia. At 11 AM, the community gathers in church for Holy Mass, followed by the blessing of agricultural vehicles, a spiritual moment to give thanks and invoke protection for the work in the fields. After lunch, a spectacular tractor parade winds through the town's streets, with the vehicles displayed between Piazzale Unità d'Italia and Piazza Milano.
The Thanksgiving Day originated in 1951 on the initiative of Coldiretti and was later adopted into the liturgical calendar by the Italian Episcopal Conference in 1975. In Orzivecchi, this occasion translates into a community celebration that unites past and present, valuing the peasant identity of the Bassa Bresciana.
The Orzivecchi Thanksgiving Festival is an annual event linked to the National Thanksgiving Day and the liturgical calendar, falling on a Sunday in November. For 2026, the usual agricultural-themed program is planned.
The day includes the gathering of tractors in Piazzale Unità d'Italia, Holy Mass in the parish church with the blessing of agricultural vehicles, and a tractor parade through the town's streets. The exact date for the 2026 edition will be announced by the Parish of Saints Peter and Paul in the weeks prior.
The definitive date and times for the 2026 edition will be published by the parish.
