The Feast of the Patron Saint and Greppole
In Pompiano, a municipality in the Province of Brescia in the lower plain, the Greppole Festival coincides with the patronal feast of Saint Andrew and is the most anticipated event of the autumn. Organized by the Municipality with the Pro Loco Pompiano, it takes place in Piazza Sant'Andrea and attracts visitors from all over the area.
Greppole and Brescia-style Spit Roast
The real stars are the greppole (in dialect, ciccioli, the traditional pieces of pork fat cooked until crispy), celebrated with a dedicated competition. Alongside them, the great challenge of the Brescia-style spit roast with polenta, a symbolic dish of the local cuisine. There are also roasted chestnuts, mulled wine, and traditional dishes.
A Day for Everyone
The festival combines devotion and popular celebration: from the inauguration with the award ceremony for deserving students and the ceremony for babies born in the year, to the setting up of the nativity scene with bagpipers, up to the greasy pole, the exhibition of vintage cars, and shows for children. It is the classic Lombard patronal feast, where faith in Saint Andrew intertwines with food and a sense of community.
Greppole Festival — edition 2026
The Greppole Festival, the heart of the patronal feast of Saint Andrew in Pompiano, is an annual event held on a Sunday in late November, around the feast day of the patron saint (November 30th). After the 23rd edition in 2025, the 24th edition is expected in 2026.
The program, confirmed by tradition, includes the greppole competition, the Brescia-style spit roast challenge, the greasy pole, the nativity scene with bagpipers, and family shows in Piazza Sant'Andrea. The exact date and detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published by the Municipality and the Pro Loco in the weeks prior.
