The LGBTQIA+ pride parade of the City of Two Seas
Taranto Pride is the LGBTQIA+ pride event that paints the streets of the Ionian capital in Apulia with color every year. Organized by the Hermes Academy cultural association alongside the Arcigay Taranto committee and an ever-growing network of social and cultural groups, it is much more than just a parade: it is a day of struggle, celebration, and community where the city showcases its pluralistic, welcoming, and supportive spirit.
The parade travels through the heart of Taranto, from the Old Town to the Umbertine District, passing by iconic landmarks such as the Swing Bridge (Ponte Girevole), the Aragonese Castle, and the seafront. Thousands of people march behind floats and rainbow flags in a festive procession filled with music, glitter, signs, and slogans demanding civil rights and equal dignity for everyone.
What makes Taranto Pride special is how it intertwines with local issues. In a city marked by environmental and social challenges, rainbow pride engages with environmental protection, labor rights, anti-racism, and international solidarity. The Ionian Pride has always been intersectional: alongside LGBTQIA+ demands, there is space for the voices of those fighting against all forms of oppression.
Along the route and in the squares, the event features performances, drag shows, theatrical acts, live music, and DJ sets, culminating in a final rally with the organizing associations. Participation is free and open to all, and everyone is invited to share in a day of visibility and celebration.
Born in 2018, Taranto Pride has established itself over the years as one of the most well-attended pride events in the Province of Taranto and all of Apulia, becoming part of the national Pride calendar. The event is accompanied throughout the month by other local initiatives dedicated to rights and visibility, reflecting a vibrant and growing associative landscape.
For those visiting Apulia in the summer, Taranto Pride is the perfect opportunity to discover a city often overlooked by mainstream tourism, yet rich in Magna Graecia history, stunning sea views, and a rebellious, generous soul.
The 9th edition of Taranto Pride, held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, brought thousands of people to the streets under the theme "Connections: United against all discrimination and violence." The edition was symbolically dedicated to the Palestinian people and the issues of social and environmental justice, which are close to the heart of the Ionian city.
The parade was organized by the Hermes Academy association as the lead organizer, together with Arcigay Taranto and a network of over sixty associations, including Famiglie Arcobaleno Puglia, Fridays for Future Taranto, and Disability Pride Puglia. The route crossed the heart of Taranto, from the Old Town to Piazza Maria Immacolata.
The lead-up to Pride was accompanied by the first edition of the Festival dell'Oppressə in Taranto, titled "Joker – Storie di lotta", featuring meetings and events between late May and early June.
The parade typically takes place between June and July, starting from the center of Taranto. The meeting point and departure time are announced each year on the organizers' social media channels.
Taranto is accessible by train (Central Station on the Bari–Taranto and Taranto–Reggio Calabria lines) and by car via the SS106 and SS7 highways. Traffic restrictions are in place in the city center during the parade; it is recommended to park in the surrounding areas and proceed on foot.
Participation in the parade is free.
