The masquerade party dedicated to the over-65s of Rome's Municipio VI delle Torri
In Rome, Carnival is traditionally a children's celebration: confetti, streamers, and costume parades in parks and city squares. The Superadults Carnival flips this tradition on its head, focusing on those who have already seen many Carnivals in their lifetime. Each year, the Municipio VI delle Torri—the most populous district in the capital—organizes this festive afternoon reserved for local seniors, with a title that serves as a statement of intent: not just "the elderly," but superadults.
The event takes place at Mi Vida Events, located at via Torregrotta 16 in the Torre Angela neighborhood, just a short walk from the metro station. The festivities begin in the early afternoon and continue until evening, with completely free admission. While participation is primarily aimed at those who attend the district's senior centers, family members and companions are more than welcome to join.
The program follows the classic Roman neighborhood festival format, with a few extra touches: live music and group dancing, traditional Carnival sweets—the essential frappe and castagnole that are staples on Roman tables in February—and a best costume contest, with a final prize for the most original outfit. Many participants prepare their costumes weeks in advance, often sewing them at home or crafting them in senior center workshops, making the awards ceremony the most anticipated moment of the afternoon.
The Municipio VI delle Torri encompasses the neighborhoods on the eastern outskirts of the capital—Torre Angela, Tor Bella Monaca, Borghesiana, Torre Maura, Finocchio, and Lunghezza—a young, vast territory that has grown rapidly in recent decades. Over the years, the district's social policies have built a network of senior centers and social initiatives, ranging from summer holidays to workshops. The Superadults Carnival is one of the most popular events in this calendar and one of the few moments when the entire district gathers under one roof.
This initiative is part of a vibrant Roman February: during the Carnival period, every district in the capital organizes parades, workshops, and masquerade parties, while in the rest of the Lazio region, the Carnival tradition lives on through historic events like the Ronciglione Carnival, the Poggio Mirteto Carnival, or the festivities in the Castelli Romani. The Superadults Carnival adds a subtle yet precious piece to this landscape, reminding us that a popular festival is only truly successful when it leaves no one behind.
The Municipio Roma VI delle Torri confirmed the event for 2026, bringing the Superadults Carnival to its second edition. The party was held on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Mi Vida Events, via Torregrotta 16, opening at 3:00 PM and closing at 7:00 PM.
Admission was free, and the afternoon concluded with the traditional best costume prize, the most anticipated moment for the participants. The initiative, aimed at the elderly in the capital's eastern district, confirmed the formula tested the previous year: a neighborhood Carnival designed for an age group that is almost always excluded from masquerade parties.
Free admission, initiative promoted by the Municipio Roma VI delle Torri.
The Mi Vida Events venue is located at via Torregrotta 16, in the Torre Angela neighborhood (East Rome). By public transport: take the Metro Line C to the Torre Angela or Torrenova stop, then a short walk; the neighborhood is also served by several urban bus lines. By car, it can be reached from the Grande Raccordo Anulare (GRA) by taking the exit toward via Casilina or via di Torre Angela; parking is available on nearby streets.
Admission is free. Places are limited: for past editions, reservations were required through the district's senior centers or by calling the Social Policies Office of Municipio Roma VI (tel. 06 69608219). It is advisable to check the registration procedures on the official Roma Capitale website in the weeks leading up to the event.
The afternoon takes place indoors. Wearing a costume is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended if you wish to participate in the best costume contest. Those accompanying a person with limited mobility may mention this when making a reservation.
