Summer Sound: the musical summer of Pizzoli

Summer Sound is the summer festival that every year, at the beginning of August, transforms the center of Pizzoli—a village in the Upper Aterno Valley in the province of L'Aquila (Abruzzo)—into an open-air stage. The event was born and has grown alongside the feast of the patron saint, Santo Stefano, blending the religious and communal spirit of a traditional village festival with a vibrant entertainment program of live music, comedy, DJ sets, and street food.

The setting: Piazza della Pace and Castello Dragonetti De Torres

The heart of the event is Piazza della Pace, located at the foot of Castello Dragonetti De Torres, a 17th-century noble residence that stands as one of the architectural landmarks of Pizzoli. For the occasion, the square is filled with a stage, lights, and stalls, creating an evocative atmosphere that combines the charm of the historic village with the energy of summer nights.

A program for everyone

Over the years, Summer Sound has brought renowned national artists to Pizzoli, hosting comedy acts and concerts by stars such as Orietta Berti and Biagio Izzo, while alternating between light music, live shows, and dance parties with DJ sets under the stars. The days are also designed for families, with rides and attractions for children in the afternoon.

Tradition and community

Summer Sound is organized by Pix Eventi, the youth group of the Per Pizzoli APS association, with the support of the Municipality of Pizzoli and local partners. The festival is deeply connected to the feast of the patron saint Santo Stefano, with the procession and solemn mass on the final day marking the devotional heart of the celebrations. It is a perfect example of how, in the small towns of the Abruzzo hinterland, summer becomes an opportunity for gathering, memory, and the promotion of local heritage.
